My visit to B & B Cactus Farm

Post by Franj »

Hi all :D

Got to visit B & B Cactus Farm in Tucson on Saturday. Thought I would share the page I built about it. Be patient though, there are a lot of thumbnails so it loads slow.

Great stuff Franj! I see why you like going there. That one on the top labled "Cactus Flower" caught my attention. Have you tried identifying it? Looks like the flowers are not restricted to the apex.

Hi Daiv,

That one had me stumped, and there wasn't anyone near knowledgeable enough to ask. The flower kind of reminds me of my Matucana. Can't tell by the body of the plant. I would like ID's on some of the others too. Perhaps I'll post them on the ID forum.

I got a queen of the night from there, but I don't have it anymore because the dogs chewed it up.

I'm envious. Must be nice to have a slice of heaven just down the road.
Great pictures, love the spines on the Ferocactus rectispinus. It's now on my most wanted list :)

Franj! I am so jealous  What a spectacular display, and that was only part? I loved the Astrophytum asterias triple :) I think I wpould have been in paradise and would also have bought a serious amount of cacti and pots!

Very nice pics there Franj. I could quite easily get lost in a place like that, and not emerge for days! :D

Nice field trip !! Looks like you got off reasonably easy on purchases. Could be your truck is smaller then mine :)

Daiv questioned the plant in the first row.

NOT a Matucana. All red flowered Matucana have zygomorphic flowers. This looks to me like a lobivia or one of the many lobivia X echinopsis hybrids in circulation. Wish we had a side view of the flower so we could see the tube length.

One other I noted is the Discocactus ssp nova. Also not correctly labeled. No red flowers in D. that I know of and most of them are night bloomers.
