my collection so far....
Re: my collection so far....
I was watching a TV show called "Hinterland" and someone said you can't grow cactus there. Yes you can and really rare Mexican ones that I have trouble with in California.

Re: my collection so far....
Hello people. I have been off the forum for a bit. I had a but of a difficult year but I am back. I need a job I was made redundant and have spent a lot of time with family and being pretty much a full time dad which kind of absorbed me. I'm gonna have a read through what I have missed as best I can see how you all are doing and post some new picture soon once the weather breaks for spring.

I have died and will die.
It's all right.

Re: my collection so far....
Last weekend
2 weeks prior Annoyingly I had water them for the first time this year between these two snow storms. About a week after the first bout of snow the weather was glorious I thought spring had sprung but then a few days later more snow and very cold. Most plants look ok and seen to be growing. Luckily the green house is much warmer that outside.

Very beautiful flowers, especially the echinocereus and aztekium flowers!

Re: my collection so far....
Yeah the echinocereus' always look great very bright. The aztekium was it's first time flowering I had 5 in total last summer. My favourite of the year was the acanthocalycium glaucum it's has the most satisfying blooms. Very chunky furry and bright.
My echeveria agavoides is pushing up a flower stalk already and my mammilarian boelderliana has got a couple of buds poking out too. The one I am looking forward too though is the mammilarian lloydii I got last year.

Hi, Ade, I’ve missed you in the forum. Your plants growing in pure grit inspired me and I followed your recommendations in this sense. Currently, I grow some genera in pure grit (Mammillaria, Astrophytum and others). They look very nice.
I would like to ask you what is this plastic material that appears in your recent pictures. Is it polycarbonate? Is the roof of your greenhouse made of the same material?
Thank you

Re: my collection so far....
Yeah it's just a large cold frame so you are seeing the panels. Here it is from the outside
I put it up on bricks to keep it out of any standing water and give it more ventilation. It worked really well this winter. I just cover it with a tarpaulin during the wettest months.

Good evening Mr. producer ,
what beautiful flowers in the last year!
And an interesting garden - even in the snow.
How do you heat the greenhouse? Do You heat. . .? Yes. . .?
Best wishes
K.W.

Re: my collection so far....
No heat in the green house, they have to though it out so I am now more carefully when acquiring new plants they need to take the low temperatures but it's working well I still have the little cold frame I used to use but now just my 2 big trichocereus live in it.
Here the garden minus the snow. It needs a bit of a tidy up after the winter.
As you can see I have another obsession there are several trees dotted around the place being trained for bonsai. I found killing cacti on it's own was not enough so I've also taken to killing trees. Lol. At least the trees are a bit faster and slightly more interactive than the cacti.
