Rooting of offsets
Re: Rooting of offsets
Off-sets posted on 9th August were set into tubes for rooting in this afternoon.
Re: Rooting of offsets
Rooted red flowering asterias last year has grown well and pushed pots out.
I removed it from the pot and repotted in a 8 cm square pot.
Removed from the pot and trimmed roots off

Re: Rooting of offsets
I repotted 12 of rooted off-sets in this morning.
Off-sets are Ariocarpus retusus v furduraceus cv Daruma Seiji.
They were set for the rooting in September 2017, 1 year and 5 months ago.
Selected 12 offsets for the repotting, in 6.5 cm square pots
An off-set removed from a pot
The pot is filled up by developed roots
The rooting medium is 2~4 mm pumice sand.

Astrophytum hybrid, fukuryu banjyaku forms many off-sets when it was grafted.
Banjyaku is a hybrid, myriostigma x ornatum.
The top photo is a grafted fukuryu banjyaku, sown seed and grafted a seedling in 2017.
I will select off-sets more than 3 cm in diameter and root in September.
The following photo is rooted off-sets.
I removed off-sets and rooted in 2017. Since fukuryu banjyaku mixed ornatum gene, rooting is very easy.
The current size is 5~6 cm in diameter.

Re: Rooting of offsets
2 Geohintonia mexicana and 3 Aztekium hintonii off-sets were set for rooting last year.
Since they were rooted, I repotted them in this morning.
Photo 1: Removed from old pots, smallest one is A. hintonii, 4 cm in diameter.

Thanks for your comment, PseudolithosLover.
I cut 3 off-sets of Aztekium hintonii, around 3 cm in diameter yesterday.
They are under drying process currently.

Re: Rooting of offsets
What I'm about to discuss is not an offset, but a cutting of a Uebelmannia pectinifera seedling. I had 3 seedlings and unfortunately due to insufficient lighting during the seedling stage ( about 6 months after germination), they started to etiolate quite severely. In order to correct this, I used a sterilised blade (wiped down with methylated spirits) and made a clean horizontal cut which resulted in a nicely shaped growing head and off course ,the still rooted stump (without a head).
I let the head dry out over two weeks and they placed them (2 of them) in a 50% coarse sand + 50% screened cacti potting mix. I maintained soil moisture such that the soil was never wet, but just enough to supply a very high humidity to the calloused portion of the cutting.
Now, 1 month later, you can see the results - very healthy rooted cuttings. I suspect one of the seedlings is a pseudo-pectinifera (the green one) instead of a pectinifera (the reddish one).
Meanwhile, the stump itself has produced about 3 decent offsets from its aerioles

Never argue with fools. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience...
