Poorly Cacti

Post by Juniper »

Hi everyone

A community garden was giving away multiple plants, including cacti. I’ve picked up what was left (I felt sorry for these guys) however they’re obviously unwell.

I’ve got them quarantined as I’m not sure what is going on, so I’m hoping you can all help :-)

The smaller cacti are brown on top and appear to have mealy bugs… does anyone know what the brown stuff is, or what I can do to help?

The larger cacti look an unhealthy green, the spines are sharp but scraggly and they’re very fuzzy. Not sure what the fuzz is?
I took two of these.
Pictured on one appears to be a moldy line across the top

Is it best to take off the smaller cacti that are growing and have them as their own plant?

Any help here is much appreciated!

Rebutias top was eaten by some bug (red spider?).
Treat them with imidaclopride and hold on a sunny window.
These rebutias and tephrocactus will recover.

Agree. Offsets will grow faster and better with the mother plant. If detached these may not root and die. And even rooted will need more time and special attention to grow into adult plants.
If your cacti mess in your job just forget about the job.

The Tephrocactus looks fine, actually. It has a few small scabby patches, but that's insignificant. They often develop those, they're just superficial, no threat to its survival.
