Hey jheaton,
It looks like physical damage. Are you keeping the plant outside? Is the tissue around these spots (too) soft in comparison with the rest of plant?
It would good to know in what type of climate or enviroment you are growing the plant in? Are you watering it a lot?
Looking at the new growth at the base it seems to be doing quite well.
I think other forum members are more experienced in these matters.

Thanks for the reply, I'm in Utah (5,000ft), she lives outside all summer. Could be physical damage i suppose and ya I had been watering once a week while it was really hot, not so much any more. and ya those babies just sprouted a little over a month ago, Is that normal? She's supposed to be a Peruvian torch by the way. Anyway thank for your response my friend !!

Ya It was a pretty windy a while back and 'maybe was too close to 'Spike', my name for that "toothpic" cactus (i think) and very well could have gotten "SPIKED".. lol.
On a different note if anyone sees this. WHAT am I going to have to do with Spike? He's almost too big to carry and cant live outside all year in Utah? This thing grew 1 arm last year an 6 more this year and its going nuts. smiles...

I agree, looks like scarring, probably from spine pokes.
As for what to do with Spike - wheeled planter, maybe?

As long as they're not white and fluffy, insect eggs on cactus spines are generally nothing to worry about.

Nice cacti and those eggs, really cool! But I am really curious about what the ‘eye’ at the bottom of the cactus far right on your pic is?jheaton wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 1:10 am Ya It was a pretty windy a while back and 'maybe was too close to 'Spike', my name for that "toothpic" cactus (i think) and very well could have gotten "SPIKED".. lol.

LOL, Ya I was wondering if anyone was going to catch that. Haha. Well, I woke up one morning and there was this giant whole in the side, maybe an inch in diameter and 3/4 inch deep. No idea what happened? It was shortly after Halloween and there was an eyeball laying around, so, I gave him an eye. Harry love's it. lol

Aha! Fun, only thing I would worry about was wether the eyeball pressed into the wound would allow the wound to dry/heal, fast enough?jheaton wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 6:09 pm LOL, Ya I was wondering if anyone was going to catch that.
