John, you have a very impressive collection here, and I never get tired of seeing the new growth on the Opuntias. :) Have you ever seen any Ariocarpus growing in habitat? I never have much luck with them, and I'm sure it's because of our cool night temperatures. :( Even the Ariocarpus seedling I grafted on Pereskiopsis last year shows very little growth. Tony

Speaking of Ariocarpus,
This weekend I went on a short trip to San Antonio. I found a cactus nursery down there, called Paul's Desert. Great nursery! Nice guy! Lots of very nice plants! :D He likes ariocarpus so he had a lot of them. So I bought 5! 8)
2 Ariocarpus Fissuratus (1 large one and one smaller one)
1 Good size Ariocarpus Trigonus
1 small Ariocarpus Fissuratus Loydii
1 large Ariocarpus Retusus

All of the plants are very nice and seed grown.
Sadly I cannot show pictures of them due to the fact that my camera just broke
Hopefully I can get the camera fixed, then i'll post pics!

If that is a M. melanocentra the seed pods should turn red and enlarge (vice versa, actually). Then they are easy to take off. You just have to wait until they're ready.
Disclaimer: I'm in sunny Arizona, so any advice I give may not apply in your circumstances.

Bummer on the camera. What kind is it and what happened?

I don't know if you caught my story with the Canon that I broke. Anyway, I had a really positive experience with their repair facility - service was really good all around.

So sorry Daiv! I completely missed your post somehow. It is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ5. Accidentally dropped it and then it wouldn't move or focus anymore. We are sending it to the main repair center or watever it is called to be fixed.

While waiting for the camera to be shipped and fixed, got a new camera. It is a Sony Cybershot W290. I am not sure what I think of it, the pictures don't seem to be that great of a quality most of the time. Here are pictures to what I mentioned about in the above posts and some other test pictures all taken with the Sony.

My new small Ariocarpus Fissuratus.

Image

It's got buds on it now! :D ( Sorry I couldn't get the focus right)

Image

My new larger Ariocarpus Fissuratus. It also is growing some buds! :D Let's hope that both plants flower at the same time!

Super bunch of plants - seem happy in their new home too.

For those close up pictures with high contrast top-dressing in the background you have to go with manual focus. OR you can hold the button down part way and lock the focus and then move it so that the plant is in focus if you are lazy like me.
