Hello everyone,
thank you for your kind comments. I must by now have over 100 digital images of these hybrids, of cours many of which are very similar, but I am certain that I have not yet seen all the possible color combinations. During the two hour walk/climb through the habitat of the plants we can only cover a small percentage of the total population. Also, as already mentioned somewhere, the flowering cycle is not synchronized. This weekend and next most likely those larger-flowered hybrids with more genetic material of the Texas Rainbow (Echinocereus dasyacanthus) and strawberry cactus (Echinocereus stramineus) will be at their peak. E. stramineus will flower last (in about two to three weeks from now).
To ihc "Opuntia Bill": No, I did not write down the GPS coordinates. You just do not know how easily I could get lost, even with global positioning data. I do not even know how to use the instrument. Well, most of us have at least one little weakness. Mine is, that I do need a "seeing eye dog" to go almost anywhere except to my place of work!
