I think Mrs. green's pictures were in reversed order. The Mammillaria and Fero pictures are swapped.

Thank you Greenknight Yes, I am aware of that..I tried the ‘place inline’ function but I obviously did somethin wrong. I should have changed it, but lazy..

I am not going to try washing it off, can I pull it off without hurting the plant? Yes, I am very pleased to see that the pup grows. It did took a while before anything happened.

Thank you 7george I will. It flowered last year too, nice yellow flowers.

This is the scruffy easter cacti, I got as a rescue. It looked sickly when I got it but I wanted to give it a try. First pic shortly after I got it and second one present. It took a while but the new ‘leaves’ are looking good, no ugly spots on them.

First flower this year. I have a feeling that the flowers on this Fero was bigger last year. If watering plays a role in the flower size ( from what I have observed in nature, that seems likely) that could be one of the reasons. The watering part is still my biggest concern, regarding the cacti. In fear of root-rot, I have a strong suspicion that I am to stingy with the water.

With many species flower gets bigger for the next days of opening so check it tomorrow. Also when body grows up flower seem smaller.

Droplets of dried nectar are pure sugar so you can add them to you coffee.

Agreed - this may not be fully bloomed yet.

Thank you 7george and Greenknight Unfortunately the weather changed abrubtly, cold and rainy the last couple of days. But on closer inspection I see that the flower can’t open up much more. The spines are keeping the petals in the current position.

7george; If I knew for certain that the Fero wasn’t treated with something nasty before I bought it, I would have tasted the droplets long ago! Not in my coffee though..sugar in the coffee is a no-no!

Apart from the four Astrophytums I also found this Notocactus uebelmannianus with yellow flowers, couldnt resist..

I'm actually kind of stunned at how healthy those astrophytums look. Looks like a very moisture retaining mix, and tiny pots.
I've never had issues with astrophytum and rot, but I do hear that astrophytums are very rot prone.

The soil looks like coco coir.

Nes; Thank you, the healthy look of them, what was attracted me to them and I decided to give it another try. Not sure though if it’s good for me, I am watching them anxiously, fearing they will rot..and I have just had them for a few hours yet..

The mix definitly worry me, like Aeonium2003 mentiones , it looks like coco choir and it’s not dry but damp.

I made a post today asking for advice, I really would like these to survive! ( https://www.cactiguide.com/forum/viewto ... 52#p394552) I may be wrong but it looks like one of them have a small flower bud and one have been broken off earlier.

These days I have a bunch of my cacti in an old kiddie wagon, the metal wagon heats up in the sun to give the plants extra warmth. This works well most of the time, but when the weather gets hot I have to move it to a spot where it gets only morning sun. It's allowed me to get spine development like this: The reddish Opuntiads aren't suffering stress, the original plant (upper right) was that color when I bought it - I still haven't identified it. Pads detach and root easily, so I have several starts because I just hate to toss them out when they break off.

The wagon seems to be a great idea in your climate, here I am not that sure ( or rather I am..) it would be very successfull. It would need both a roof and walls to keep the plants from going into hibernation, even in summer..
