You can buy individual Cactus and Succulent Journal articles from BioOne. I just bought a copy of The Littlest Lophophora by J Šnicer, J Bohata & V Myšák, describing the discovery of Lophophora alberto-vojtechii and offering a new key to the Lophophora species. I can't give more details now as I haven't read the full article yetLoph wrote:do they sell copies without a subscription?

Mamm.
Looks awfully Mammish rather than Lophish, to me.
I'd look to relatives of Mammillaria magnimamma or something like M mystax for the parentage of this plant.
I'm still working on my Mamm ID powers, but that's my impression off the top of my head.

Re: Cacti Guides' Lophophora Guide
doubt it's really their fault, if you asked the average US politician what a Lophophora is they would probably look at you like you were insane, and yet you expect them to differentiate between L. williamsii and other members of the same family?
Here's to you, all you insidious creatures of green..er I mean cacti.
Re: Cacti Guides' Lophophora Guide
A few of the Lopho's I picked up in the last year or so, many three year old seedlings a bit too small to show adult characteristics yet some from seed with locality data, including L. williamsii's, L frickii's, L. kohresii's, L. diffusa's and a tiny L. alberto-vojtechii second left bottom about the size of a pea that has sunken right into the gravel to overwinter. Sorry about the appalling quality of the picture but it was an underexposed snatch shot I pulled up in post processing and have not had time to take a decent one.
Re: Cacti Guides' Lophophora Guide
Nice collection! Don't suppose you could tell us what each one is?
I've taken the liberty of numbering them for you
Hope you don't mind
I like Number 1. Numbers 15 and 19 are nice too.

I wasn't raised a Cactolic but converted to Cactolicism later in life
Re: Cacti Guides' Lophophora Guide
Will have to look at them later to find out. 18 is the alberto-vojtechii, if you can find it A lot are looking wrinkled from their winter rest. Lophophora's are about the only cacti that can go that wrinkly and squashy in winter and not actually be rotten!

Re: Cacti Guides' Lophophora Guide
Thanks for that comment, DaveW & Paulzie for the pics. Have 2 small 2 yr old seedlings (were very "stalky" 1st yr; learned here some are like that!) that now have "settled" to level with soil surface & somewhat wrinkly! Was afraid of 1) not enough H20 & 2) killing because have H20 lightly q 7 days (very well-drained soil & near furnace heat vent!). Ahh, that balance can be so elusive!
Once bitten by the cactus collecting/growing bug, there is no known cure!
There's no 12 step programme for Cactaholics...so I shall just have to get some more!!
