More fun facts...
Here is a little more for you guys. I know we talked about browsers before. Here are the top 5:
IE = 59%
Firefox = 30%
Safari = 7%
Chrome = 2%
Opera = 2%
Note: if you add that up, you'll see it is 100% - This is because I rounded up. The total is actually a little less than 100%, there are 16 other browsers listed, but combined only make up about 1%!
Operating Systems:
Windows = 88%
Mac = 9%
Linux = 2%
One more set of figures for you - Screen Resolutions - Top 10:
1. 1024 x 768 = 34%
2. 1280 x 800 = 18%
3. 1280 x 1024 = 13%
4. 1440 x 900 = 9%
5. 1680 x 1050 = 7%
6. 800 x 600 = 4%
7. 1152 x 864 = 3%
8. 1920 x 1200 = 2%
9. 1280 x 768 = 2%
10. 1280 x 720 = 1%
For the longest time 800 x 600 was at 10%. I've always had the site set to fit that size and up. It might be time to bump that up to fit 1024 x 768.
The highest resolution of any visitor is 3840 x 1024 - must be one serious monitor!

Quite interesting to see that the ratio of Firefox users on here far outweighs the global ratio - as of April 2009 Firefox globally had a 22.48% user coverage.
Not sure that it necessarily means anything, but it's interesting regardless!

Ha! I knew there were more statistic junkies than just me!
I wonder what the Mac/Windows global ratios are and how those compare here. Do you have that off hand Neko?
My guess it that more companies have Windows/IE users. Since this is a hobby site and users aren't supposed to be on it at work (for the most part) they go on at home where they have the less institutional Firefox or Mac setup.
Phone screens are less than 1%

I can indeed provide those stats!daiv wrote:Ha! I knew there were more statistic junkies than just me!

Global OS market share, as of April 2009:
Windows: 87.9%
Mac: 9.73%
Linux: 1.02%
iPhone: 0.55%
iPod Touch: 0.15%
Java ME: 0.07%
Other: 0.58%

So we're ahead of the rest of the world in adopting Firefox and Linux! (I must confess, for my sins, that I am still a M$ Windows user, though...)

That did surprise me, in truth - given the sharp Firefox deviation, I was expecting more of a skew in those results.daiv wrote:Wow! Considering that I rounded the numbers above - we are pretty much EXACTLY the same on the OS stats.
Like you say - not sure what use that information is, but I just like statistics.
I'm much the same - who cares why you need to know it, when you can just know it anyway?
I specialise mostly in useless statistics anyhow - for instance; in 2002, 284 Australians were admitted to hospital after attempting to open a bottle of beer with their eye socket. In the same year, 1,200 Brits were injured by plug-in air fresheners, and 13 Americans were killing by vending machines tipping over onto them after rocking it in the hope of getting a free snack.
Totally useless, but fun to know anyway!

Ian, you are not alone - that is percentage of number of users. While, you could be 3% of the site traffic, you are not 3% of all users - so there are more out there like you!

I think it is because the plug in ones can start fires easily. I thought I read that somewhere.iann wrote:While I do feel that is only poetic justice, I have to wonder just what is so dangerous ...1,200 Brits were injured by plug-in air fresheners
