Hi all,
Just found another use for a cactus. According to Eric Haustein's Cactus Handbook, "An effective heart stimulant is extracted from the stems of Selenicereus grandiflorus and it is used mainly in England and North America."
I must admit most cacti stimulate my heart, but anyone who has a heart complaint for real could be walking around with a little bit of cactus in their bloodstream. Interesting thought.
One more from the same book: The fruits of Pereskia portulacifolia are marketed as Barbados gooseberries
Cheers
John
