Post by clemons »

is there such a thing? im talking bout one that fits on your window and hangs outside like a airconditioner..i guess it would have a sliding glass door on thje inside of your house and the bulk of it would be outside..

Never heard of it -not a bad idea.

Might be something you could introduce to the world!

Yes, that is a great idea! Should be easy to frame up and install! Might not be big enough to get many plants in, but certainly a few.. Go for it!!

Do a seach for Greenhouses on google. I found some that attach to the side of your house that are close to what your describing.

Ahh like a lean-to greenhouse.

Similar to a conservetory but without furniture and carpets :-)

Yeh you could make a mini one, like a protruding window?

There are any number of window re-fit assemblies that stick out from the house and provide the basics of what you need. They are available anywhere windows are sold. Some actually come equipped with glass shelves in them.

The only problem is isolating the atmosphere from the house. I've never seen any that have the inside barrier. I'm also not sure that you need it, but you could experiment with various forms of sheet plastic.

Buck, I know the type you are referring too, but how about one designed for plants? It would be really neat to have one with a built in drip pan at the bottom as well as ventillation possibilities.

They exist

Back in the seventies these window greenhouses were all the rage. Look in any gardening magazine from back then. They did not, however, close off from the house. The idea was that you'd have the controlled house atmosphere, but loads of light. I always wanted one when I was a kid growing gloxinias and other gesneriads.

I would imagine they're still around?

Here is a link to a couple.

I think you could easily install a sliding window in conjunction with one of these and achieve the results you are looking for.

Something like this:
