Greenhouse day 2560

Post by gunhat »

It has been interesting to read and see Bill's new project with his nice greenhouse. I have build mine in a somewhat special way.

It’s a rather small greenhouse – 3,2 m x 2,8 m:

I dug out a hole in the ground and made a concrete floor, 50 cm below ground level. The plants are on tables 70 cm above the floor, and the greenhouse is placed above that level. So all the glass is above the plants. I don’t see any point in having glass below the tables.

This way the greenhouse gets much more space, which is good because the climate inside will not change that rapidly. I think it also looks nicer from the outside.

A look trough the door:

A look from the inside:

When it rains heavily some water comes in, but that’s not a problem since there are drainage pipes below the floor.

Looks good Gunnar, either you or Bill may like to come and build a new one for me, for some strange reason Bill seemed to think he was too far away :o

Very Nice... The idea of a sunken floor with the glass above sounds interesting.
Do you ever get flooded?
Having a sunken floor made out of concrete, wouldn't that increase the humidity?

Excellent idea Gunnar. Very creative-- I like it but I didn't notice any Opuntia's in there

Thank's for nice comments.

To Frank: No I have never been flooded, and never had problems with humidity

To Bill: I have made my decision- no Opuntias (because the take too much space, and I can’t grow them outside in our climate). So I rely on you to post more excellent pictures.

To Hablu: More pictures here: Greenhouse
