I need your suggestion (photos included)

Post by Butterfly »

Hello,

i would like to know what's going on with my cactus. First photo shows its present condition.
On the second photo (last summer) it was green (first cactus from the left).
When i bought it they said it's Echinocereus chloranthus. Is it true?

could it be sunburn? I am thinking if it were something like spider mites they would go after the new growth.

I think its fungus, but i can easily be wrong.
When thousands of foes unite, for my ruins plot–
If only You remain by my side, I then fear not!
I live for a hoped union with thee, it is my desired prize–
Or all my moments are spent- in the fright of demise!

sunburn or mite damage, but it seems old. Keep an eye on it, but I don't think it'll spread anymore.

Sunburn, especially if only on 1 side of plant. Is yellowed area "squishy"? Looks serious, but may be heavy corky to some stress. Haven't experienced mites (yet), but don't they attack growth points?
Once bitten by the cactus collecting/growing bug, there is no known cure!

Thank you everyone for the quick response. This damage is all around the cactus body.
But the top of the cactus is green. Any suggestions on what I should do?

Doesn't look like much green to make a cutting. Buy a new plant? ](*,)

You can't heal severe sun damage like that (sun-bleaching in your case  ), but in time it will grow out. The growing point is good and healthy, so you'll just have to wait until the damage grows out and becomes less significant. :)

Happy growing!

There is always one more glochid. Somewhere.

How the sun burn could be all around the cactus body? Besides it never stands in a sunny place. It stands on the eastern window and receives some morning sun rays.

Then mites is a more likely cause, IMO. Can you see any mites close to the growing point? Or worse, on nearby plants?
