During the past few years I have de-grafted and rooted Discocactus horstii plants and offsets and growin them on in 2¾" square plastic pots - I like them that way. I will post sequence photos of the procedures I have used (others may have better ones). In this post an overview and the initial procedures. I undertake this task at the start of our spring in southern Arizona (like now - a little early, I know, but I am growing old and antsy).
Typical grafted plant with cephalium
Rooted de-grafts and offsets
Well established rooted de-graft
Grafted plant secondary offset removed using a sterilized
exacto knife to produce minimal cut surface - put aside to callous.
Grafted plant primary offset removed using a sterilized
exacto knife to produce minimal cut surface - put aside to callous.

Cut surfaces satisfactorily healed.
In 2¾" square plastic pots - resting on surface of my standard
soilless mix (barely moistened) with desert grit top dressing.

Thanks for posting this, nice to know they can root properly after degrafting.
