Schlumbergera opuntioides graft
Schlumbergera opuntioides graft
This is a 5 weeks old graft of schlumbergera opuntioides I've made. It's been growing a bit odd because it usually pup from the top. But this has been popping from all over 17 offsetts from one pad

Re: Schlumbergera opuntioides graft
Very nice, obviously a good union between the vascular bundles for growth like that
I have a small plant from a rooted cutting last year ready to bloom any day now and plans to propagate it this year and also graft a few bits in case of the worst

Re: Schlumbergera opuntioides graft
Did it go well propagate your opuntioides? This one I accidentally broke off while rearranging in the shelf But it had grown big and nice so was able to root some of the pads. Also did 10+ grafts this season for being on the safe side
Re: Schlumbergera opuntioides graft
They dried up quite a bit but eventually they all rooted except one piece that rotted, I think because it was late in the season

Re: Schlumbergera opuntioides graft
Well it's such a nice plant I can't bring myself to remove anything for cuttings until it's bigger although the grafted plant has really come along since I last posted and I think by next year I will be able to take a number of good sized cuttings from it, I also purchased another cutting (hopefully different clone) a few months ago which is a very, very fast grower from a two branch cutting I now have about 7 new branchesAwdre wrote:Did it go well propagate your opuntioides? I have heard that it tends to just "colapse" after a couple of years but fingers crossed for your new cuttings.

Re: Schlumbergera opuntioides graft
Nice to hear that it goes well for your opuntioides. A problem for the grafts I did this year is that they've been pupping so much so the segments gets too small. But that's leaving me with grafting material for life I guess
