Hi, all,

I'm a 30 year old American, and a recent transplant to Nevada from Wisconsin. I've loved cacti and succulents for years, but my living conditions were never favorable for keeping them healthy; goodness knows I've killed my fair share of them due to overwatering or lack of sufficient lighting (mostly due to north-facing windows and balconies). Now that I've moved to a climate (not to mention living situation) better suited to their needs, I want to begin my hobby in earnest. I chose to join this forum because it's a wonderful resource for new-ish hobbyists like me who want to get serious, but need a little advice from those who are more experienced.

Hi! piggybacking on this, wondering what kind of lights you are using, I am in NYC and was thinking of also investing in some grow lights but am very unsure with which to begin! thanks!

I too want to extend a warm welcome to you. Nevada is indeed a better suited environment for cacti than Wisconsin. You could probably grow quite a large number of cacti outdoors. :)
