Sclerolands part deux

Post by peterb »

Hi- Just outside Bloomfield, NM, in the Four Corners area, S. whipplei ssp. cloveriae in bud:

Another plant with super long, papery centrals:

This seedling gives an idea of the harsh conditions in this area:

On the eastern side of Bloomfield, near a tiny village called Blanco, S. parviflorus reappears:

I wonder How do they grow like that?

...but then it is not only amazing that they can grow in those conditions, but they don't grow without those conditions....

Incredible!

Nice again. Hope when you go back you get some flowers. Is S.parviflorus the one with purple flowers?

Hi Daiv- I wonder the same thing seeing the amazing plants of coastal Chile, for instance. (of course, they luxuriate in coastal fogs; not an option for Scleros or E. polycephalus, for example).

maybe the seeds germinate "inside" the cracks... where there are more humidity than the surface...
