Hello Everybody, Just joined yesterday although I've been exploring Cactiguide since May. We get around 60" of rain here, I think... Mostly during the winter. My cacti like being outside during summer, and so do I. I live in forest, with lots of birds and critters and tall trees around, which limit the amount of sunlight available. Well, time to go outside and watch my cacti grow. Until later...

Only about 45" of rain here, but otherwise the same climate. I also put my cacti outside for the summer - but I've never seen them grow, you must have incredible patience! People think watching grass grow is slow, but it's speedy by comparison!

Thank you. I'm going to have to double check the rainfall, it's what someone said the other day, might not be accurate. I don't actually see my cacti growing, but I brought back from South Dakota in May some Opuntia fragilis that put out new growth within about two weeks of starting from cuttings and could see from day to day a noticeable increase. I had new pads size of the end of my thumb by end of July. I'm amazed, but we' ve had summer like never before. Nice to "meet" you. J

41" sounds more plausible - but it doesn't hurt to exaggerate. Also be sure to mention how gloomy and depressing the winters are, helps to discourage people from moving here. Got to keep plenty of room for those birds and critters!

Welcome Jay. Other side of the country. My son and daughter-in-law are at JBLM and live in Spanaway, WA for the next two years. May be going out that way before long.

Hi Jerry, had an aunt and uncle near newark back in the day, got to visit once. They had fireflies, something we don't have out here. Had them in tulsa when very young, saw them in Germany when stationed there. Spanaway is ~45 miles. Summers here might be the best anywhere. I'm biased

Just noticed a few Fireflies tonight and thought it was a bit late for them.

My youngest daughter was stationed at Landstuhl Army Medical Center for four years. She is a nurse. She's out now and got promoted to Captain while in the inactive reserves, or whatever its called. She no longer out ranks my son though. She loved gloating about that!!!

I was stationed in Hanau, near Frankfurt. Sp4, engineers. We built floating bridges. A lot of people didn't like it, but I would rather be on the river than sitting in the motor pool. Sure got cold in winter though!

Love to see cacti growing outside in different zones.

Hello nes, I put them out in summer, but have to bring them in for winter as it's too cold and wet to leave them out. They sure have liked all the sun we had this year.
