|
|
|
Hi everyone! I'm thrilled to announce here the "Upload picture" feature that enables you to upload a picture to CactiGuide.com without using a seperate host!
There are a couple of things to note with this feature.
1. Size is still a concern: While it may take a while, eventually the number of pictures posted here can add up to a lot of disc space used. I will have to monitor the growth of the picture directory and may have to reduce the size allowed or number of pictures allowed per user in the future.
2. This feature is for the CactiForum only. This mod has a handy feature that enables me to delete any pictures from the directory that are not being used in a post or private message.
And that's all there is to it!

I'm sure i'll find this feature particularly usefull when posting from my work computer, as i do not have access to my server from here. I can load up my USB thumbdrive and attach the images from there.
Plus, it leaves no cyber trail _________________ Darryl

Ha ha!
Thanks Paul (and those thinking it, but not saying it) -but we should be OK for a good long while. I just wanted to put the caution in up front so as not to surprise anyone. When I say "Size is a concern", I'm talking when we hit the Gigabyte range. right now we're not even at 2 MB.

how to use this feature
before uploading images are best resized to 600 pixels wide or less and need to be less than 120 kb in size
first reply to a post or start a new topic as you would normally do. to insert an image into your post click on "upload picture"
you will then see this box appear.click on "browse"
then this box will appear, navigate to the folder where your image is stored and left click on the image you want 1 the file name will appear in the box below 2
now click on "open" and you will see this box again, next to the browse button the path to your image is now displayed.1 next click on "send" 2
when the image finishes uploading you will see it in the box like this. scroll down the image box and click standard, the image code is now in your post all that's left to do is add any text you want to go with the image either before or after the image
if you want to post more than one image click on "insert picture and upload another one" and repeat the process until the desired number of images are uploaded then click on "standard" after the last one uploads.
-----------------------------------------------------
ok i discovered another feature, if you want to post the same pic twice instead of uploading it twice click the gallery link shown in red and let your images load, scroll to the one you want and click on "standard" underneath the image.
using this feature should save storage space on the server that hosts cactiguide. _________________ incurable cactoholic
