Fluorescent Light

Post by hafezzahruddin »

Greeting from Malaysia.

I've been thinking about something regarding lighting.
What is is the effect of constant exposing cacti to fluorescent light (the strong one that they use for aquatic plants in the aquarium) at night, apart from the natural sunlight during the day?
I'm thinking of trying to apply this to all my cacti but I can't afford to take the risk.
Any opinion?

Just curious, what is the reason for the nighttime lighting?

Cacti and most succulents need to be dark at night. If you expose them to sufficiently bright light all night they will eventually die.

And if you have lots of natural light - save money by not having to run the lights!
All Cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are Cacti

I used fluoros 24/7 to grow some Bridgesii from seed. Never had an issue...

They are in a windowsill now after a year or so under the flouros.

Please keep in mind that I am by no means an expert, I just wanted to let you know it worked for me... I used the flouros I start my flowers and veggies with.

Beautiful garden BTW!

Good luck! :D
No matter how pretty the fire is don't touch it...

I think fluorescent light could be useful during winter, if in your region the day light seems to be too short.
So the plants would appreciate 2-3 hours of more light. But i agree that entire night is too much.
