Blooming Cylindropuntia arbuscula

Post by birdguy34 »

Here's part of my oldest plant of C. arbuscula in bloom. Its at least 30 years old and about 4 ft tall, it'd be taller but makes so many chain fruits that large branches break off in winter storms and it has to be pruned frequently. I read that because of all the development in Arizona that this is becoming a rare species. Chris

yes, Chris, arbuscula is far less common than it used to be. I have spent many, many hours out in the deserts of AZ in the past year and have not found nearly as many as Benson and others talk about, even as recently as 20 years ago.
