Re: Echinopsis has some brownish spots
I have the same type of echinopsis. It looks like a fairly healthy plant to me. I can't see the brown spots in the pics, but I do see some white spots that look like mealy bugs or another type of pest. My echinopsis has similar spots and they are mealy bugs. Very hard to get rid of. I have battled t...

Re: My ferocactus has weird wrinkles
It looks ok to me too. :-) Has the cactus been growing in pure sand for a long time? I can't think of any potted cactus that do well in pure sand, only, but that doesn't mean there are none. If it's an echinopsis, hybrid or relative, it might be happier in a more varied potting mix with regular feed...

Re: Is my mineral mix appropriate for some/all of these plants?
weinbergii.jpg All seem to be doing well in the mixture and the Pulchellus Weinbergii is surprisingly my first windowsill cactus to bloom this season. Of course, I had to post a photo. :) I'm relieved that even the discocactus roots have anchored themselves after repotting. I read that discos need ...

Excellent! Thank you so much, Spence! I am a bit of a worry wart. haha. I will pot these cacti with confidence. I've learned a lot from your responses to my posts and others throughout the site.

Is my mineral mix appropriate for some/all of these plants?
Buying pre-mixed minerals got too expensive. Today, I purchased a large bag of NAPA product (Diatomaceous Earth) and Manna Poultry Grit (crushed granite), hoping it's ok to pot my new cacti in this mixture moving forward. I live in a humid climate and feed my plants regularly in growing season. Will...

#8 resembles my pilosocereus azureas (pachycladus). If that's what you have, it will grow fast and strong if you leave plenty of room for root growth. I found them very easy to care for. One of my favorites! Enjoy!

Please help identify - cold tolerant cacti
Hello all, This little cactus was accidentally left outside last year when I brought the others in for winter. It survived sub-freezing temps and east coast snow, in a pot! The little one did well through winter and continued to grow when the weather warmed. I'd like to plant some of these in the gr...

Hello out there!
Hello, fellow members. I started growing cacti nearly a year ago and they quickly became my favorite plants. I'm hoping to network with growers in similar climates and also share experiences, tips, and advice with other forum members. I'm sure that I can glean a great deal of knowledge from the expe...

Re: Nontoxic systemic for mealybugs
Thanks so much for the advice. This is my first time dealing with mealy bugs and it's surprising how tenacious those creatures can be. I will do as you suggested and put the plants in a dark room for about a week before repotting this time. For soil, I use a grit mix of clays, pumice and turface. I ...

Nontoxic systemic for mealybugs
Hi everyone, I have spent a lot of time into my fight with mealy bugs on the stems and roots of my cactus. Fighting them with alcohol and dish detergent has been a losing battle. I have about 60 indoor potted cactus that need to be treated and it seems that watering with a systemic is my only hope. ...
