This year I planted a cactus mix that I bought in America.
They were 2 years old when I planted them because I kinda forgot I had them.
Most of them germinated within 2 days.
Older seeds seem to germinate faster at the cost of a slightly less overal seed germination in my experience.

Re: post baggie-method
Thank you guys! 3 months is rather early to be taking them out, they can stay in the baggies for a year or more as long as there's no mold. I've read that somewhere else too. It seems like half of the people like to take them out once they're 3 months old and the other half tends to take them out mu...

post baggie-method
So my cactus seedlings reach the 3 month mark tomorrow. From then I'll give them periods out of the bag. From what i've read you still have to water them daily. :?: Also they can't take direct sunlight right? They're are doing really good at the moment and are under artificial light 12 hours a day. ...

Re: Falling apart Cactus
it's an opuntia microdasys.
And it has etiolated alot.
This means it has had way to little sun.
Try giving it alot more direct sunlight.
But build it up, otherwise it gets sunburns.
Water amount depends where you live.

Re: Echinocereus viridiflorus v. rhyolitensis
I quote llifle: "Echinocereus viridiflorus subs. chloranthus (Engelm.) N.P.Taylor: has 10-18 ribs, 5 or more central spines, giving the plants a bristly appearance, it is often considered a separate species (Echinocereus chloranthus). Distribution: W. Texas, S.E. New Mexico, and N. Mexico"...

It's like it could read my mind but after two weeks 3 new arms formed. I guess patience is the answer.

Re: Germination Time
Yes, this week I actually sowed some mammillaria seeds on top of them.
And most of those mammillaria seeds germinated so we'll see what happens

Re: Germination Time
Schmuel thank you for the tips.
But I unfortunatly don't have the equipment or the money to reach those temperatures.
I get my soil from a local garden centre.

euphorbia pentagona
Hello,
I got a beautiful euphorbia pentagona.
I know this plant can branch enthusiastically but is there any way to encourage it to branch even more?
Because at the moment it only got one branch.
And also, when removing an offset, will a new branch grow out of the same place?

Thank you for commenting.
So are you suggesting that after this summer I should let the soil dry out.
And then re-water it the next summer?

Re: Germination Time
Alright thanks for the advice guys! The temperature varies from 18ºC in the night to a maximum of 25ºC at day. They seeds arent buried so that's not what could be the problem. Also the the soil is not the problem. One week earlier I sowed a cactusmix that I bought 2 years ago. They all germinated an...
