Re: Sick/Diseased Cactus
That's an euphorbia resinifera and what's happened is called corking. The base turns woody with age and it's completely normal

Re: Gymnocalycium and mamillaria ID
1. Is a notocactus, most probably uebelmannianus
2. Gymnocalycium pflanzii (saglionis is generally more spiny)
3. I guess you are correct
4. Mammillaria of the elegans bunch
The first two could take some excess water i guess but you want to plant them in a fast draining mix

Re: From Majorelle Gardens, Marrakech
In your last post, the branching one is trichocereus terscheckii or one of the very closely related species/subspecies and the second is pachycereus pringlei - though i've never seen one so blue and with little spines. Maybe the lack of spines makes it receive more sun and become bluer

It's euphorbia milii or one of its hybrids. It's known here as crown of christ

What about using rich potting soil with porous clay? Seems to me you get the best of both worlds

Re: Cacti on steroids?
If you get flowers or buds on your plants you are usually doing everything right. There looks to be an awful lot of tubercles on that plant for 1cm (less than half an inch) in diameter and 1.5cm (under 3/4 inch) tall. Mammillaria tubercles are usually about 1cm apart? For a sense of scale, these ar...

Re: Cacti on steroids?
This is what i'm talking about. 2 of the 3 tiny seedlings in this pot have buds. The plant (without spines) is around 1cm in diameter and 1.5cm tall. I know the big flowers are fake, i'm only wondering if it's usual for seedlings to flower that small or it's the results of too much fertilizer, water...
