Re: Zac's Seedlings 2024
Another thought regarding rot-prone species, if anyone has an opinion..... Would the droplets of water on the seedlings from after I mist them be a source of rot? Should I be bottom watering to keep the bodies of the plants dry?

Re: Zac's Seedlings 2024
Well things seem to be going along ok. I've gotten great germination rates on most of the easier species, and rates ranging from "meh" to "pretty good" on the more difficult ones. The fungus/mold that was initially causing all the problems is completely gone, thankfully. I've bee...

Re: Best/favorite seed sources?
Mesa Garden is, of course, the OG. My second favorite source of seeds is Rob Romeo's Etsy shop, Three Deserts. He has some really unique stuff, and the germination rate I've gotten from his E. polycephalus is double what I've gotten from any other source. I've also bought from Phoenix Desert Seeds s...

Re: Zac's Seedlings 2024
Congrats!! I’m super inspired by the turn around you’re seeing in those afflicted pots! I’ve had very bad/sporadic luck recovering from a fungal/mold infection. If you get a chance, I’d love to hear exactly what you did to get this turnaround. I wish I had some magic bullet, but I just put them out...

Re: Zac's Seedlings 2024
Just an update... Drying things out and keeping the trays outside has worked wonders! Here's a before and after of two pots of Echinocereus polycephalus that were covered in the fungus/mold. Now I can barely see it on any of the pots! Echinocactus-polycephalus-mold-before.jpg Echinocactus-polycephal...

Re: Seedlings - Echinocereus, Ferocactus, Mammillaria
Hello! I am definitely interested in what extras you might have! Hey DesertDrifter, I was trying to reply to your PMs but my attempts at reply are just sitting in my "outbox" and I'm not sure if they actually are sending. Do you want some of all the species, or just select ones? How many ...

PMs sitting in Outbox
I'm trying to send some PMs, but they've just been sitting in the "outbox" for over a day and I'm not sure if they're sending... Anyone got any insight?

Re: First visit to Joshua Tree Nat. Park
Awesome Mojave flora! You didn't happen to see either of the two native Mammillaria species, did you? No, I didn't. Which ones do you mean? Hey, sorry for the delay in reply. Mammillaria tetrancistra and dioica. JT is smack dab in tetrancistra's range, which extends north up through Death Valley al...

Seedlings - Echinocereus, Ferocactus, Mammillaria
Not seeds, but 1 year old seedlings up for grabs. I sowed way more than I needed because I thought I'd have a higher attrition rate than I did, and ended up with way more than I could take care of. I have a bunch of the following species of anyone wants any. Echinocereus engelmanii Ferocactus cylind...

Re: Post winter watering
I still haven't done that first watering of the year for my collection! Typically nighttime lows are consistently in the 50s by the end of Match, but thanks to the periodic cold storms NorCal has been getting it's bouncing between a few warm days and then several cold ones where temps go back into t...

Re: Zac's Seedlings 2024
108F is too hot you'll need to add ventilation or move to a shadier location . If the seedlings turn Red and stop growing its too much light . Sulfur will probably work better than that other stuff . That's what I thought. I'll up the shade cloth percentage and keep an eye on things. What would you...
