Re: Winter storage (Sweden)

My greenhouse is very similar to Dave's.
The brickwork has a height of 80 cm (2,6 ft?).

This year I bought four shelves (same as in the box) from Ikea that are very practical. The shelves are great and only cost 12€ https://www.ikea.com/se/sv/p/hyllis-hyl ... -00278578/.

Re: Winter storage (Sweden)

Yes, greenhouses are pretty common in Sweden. Many people like to grow vegetables (tomatoes, chili, cucumber, etc.) in the summer. However, not many people grow cacti :D May through October applies to most of Sweden as well. I will keep 5 degrees Celcius in the box. I guess it will take about ~200kW...

Winter storage (Sweden)

Hi! Just wanted to show my new winter storage, thought to try to store some of my cacti in the greenhouse this year. Tired of moving them every fall and spring. Especially the heavy columnar. The storage is easy to take apart when spring arrives. The sides facing north and west have 45 mm insulation...

Re: Yesterday I acquired some really nice cacti

Thanks, Hegar!
I had not expected to acquire soo many fine plants, I think the nursery had every single cactus on my "wishlist".
Will visit again next year.

Yesterday I acquired some really nice cacti

Hi! Yesterday I visited a grower who has an amazing collection of cacti. A very nice person who sells cacti and seeds, he has a homepage ( https://www.wermlanddesertplants.se/ ) but I don't think it gets updated very often. I could have stayed all day but didn't want to take up too much of the man's...

Ok, thanks for the advice Aiko!
I will not repot but take the pot out of the bag and maybe open the lid of the jar.

Aztekium hintonii one year old - should I repot?

Hi! Last year I tried to grow Aztekium from seeds. Most seedlings died after a couple of months (slowly faded away) but some have survived. The big ones are 5 mm and I wonder if I should take the largest out from the bag/jar? And can I treat them like ordinary Lophophora seedlings? (repot them in 1/...

120 cm cutting of unknown columnar cactus

Hi! I got a big cutting from an unknown columnar cactus. I have tried to google and found one picture ( https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=images&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwiP7dTSkp7jAhXLw8QBHXloB68QjRx6BAgBEAU&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gardentags.com%2Fplant-encyclopedia%2Fpilosocereus-glaucesc...

Re: Does this setup work?

Hi! I have an Ikea box at home but have not used it for cacti seedlings. I have thought about moving bigger seedlings to the box because I like my cacti organized. I would replace the Rockwool with a soil mix. A completely enclosed box would be better but if you keep the soil constantly moist everyt...

Re: Epiphyllum oxypetalum?

Thanks for all answers!
Guess I have to wait until it has grown bigger.
Also bought a Selenicereus grandiflorus from another seller. It was just a bare cutting but has rooted and started to grow now.

Epiphyllum oxypetalum?

Hi! I bought a cactus at an online auction. The seller auctioned out the cactus as "Princess of the night!". I hoped for a Selenicereus pteranthus but the seller did not know the Latin name. Anyway, I took a chance and bought it. Now the cutting has grown a leaf  I know nothing abou...

Re: Dodo's first seedlings

Oh that doesn't bode well. Must be old seeds you got, I sent an email this morning asking about the status of my order. I have ordered a lot of seeds from different sellers. The seeds that I have failed with are: BLOSSFELDIANA liliputana 0% Ariocarpus retusus 5% (different sellers) Ariocarpus kotsch...

Re: Dodo's first seedlings

Hi Dodo!

Your seedlings look great.
Have you received your seeds from kaktusy.cz? I ordered some seeds a month ago and want to know if I can expect to get any seeds.

Re: My sowing adventure

Thanks for the answer.
I thing I will try to use grit next time (waiting for new seeds :) ).
Always get problem mold and moss because I use too much standard soil.

Re: My sowing adventure

Hi Elie!

Your seedlings look great.
Are you growing them in 100% gravel? And if so do you add any fertilizer?
