Re: Pompoms arctic cacti
Hello friends! I hope everyone is doing well and all cacti collections are flourishing. Last 6 months I’ve been really busy with my studies and I have had limited time to visit the forum. I’m doing well, but it seems I’m going to be even busier till June... :D My cacti are in dormancy, I actually ma...

Just like Elie, I'm also jealous of your collection! I wasn't aware there's so many different feros! You have really interesting species there, I especially like the one in pic DSCN9603 (1).jpg, may I ask what it is? Thank you very much Pompom! There are so many species and I have grown incredibly ...

Re: Nick's Collection
Hello Nick! It's nice to see your collection grow! I especially like your g. monvillei and n. ottonis. The noto is adorable! I too hope your wife accepts your hobby soon! It took a while my husband accepted my collection... Now he says it's ok for me to have as many cacti as I want, they just have t...

What would you do?
I have these about 8 months old seedlings (mammillaria karwinskiana). All of them are doing absolutely great except for this one little oddling. It has been doing fine till these days but now to me it's starting to look little sick. It's losing color from the top part, as like it's starting to etiol...

Re: Free the roots!
First, I use the same soil mixture for my succulents as I use for my cacti. It's somewhere between 10 and 15% organic which is strictly pine bark and 85 to 90% inorganic, and is a mixture of pumice, turface, coarse sand, Bonsai Block (which is a high fired calcined clay), decomposed granite (chicke...

Re: Inherited Plants
I'd agree the cactus is parodia leninghausii. Like cosmo, I'm not sure about the succulent. Maybe some kind of aloe of agave or similar?
How big they are?

Re: Pompoms arctic cacti
Hello Pompom, I was not aware that birch trees produce so many seeds. Here we do have "cotton wood" trees, a kind of poplar, which are also a nuisance. When they are ready, the sees comes floating through the air like snowflakes. Those birch seeds are winged, allowing them to be dispersed...

More roots here! The e. subdenudatas here are not my plants, they'll be gifts for my friends. I read this particular species is pretty easy to grow here in Finland and many have got them to bloom, so they'll be perfect gifts for people who have not that much experience with cacti. It also doesn't ne...

Now ... I've been waiting for several days to see a response from you from any posting. Because I know you have one of these Aloes too ... so this is for you Pompom. I thought I'd post these pictures so that you could see what your Aloe will do if it has not already done so. And I'm talking about b...

Re: Free the roots!
Yes, it is normal for many globular cacti, even for columnar ones sometimes. Some even go completely under soil surface and then emerge after first rains, water. Your cactus just expanded vertically. You better leave repotting for next year. And keep it dry till next spring, it is easier to repot c...

5. Some kind of echinopsis, I'm not sure if this is a pure one since there's so many hybrids available nowadays
3. Astrophytum, maybe a. myriostigma

Re: Free the roots!
Is it ok for it (e. grusonii) to have the roots little cramped there? Everything that I have learned, through articles on the internet, and videos on YouTube, etc, has taught me that xeric plants much prefer being under potted rather than being over potted. A large pot can accumulate water and stay...

Well that's a stunning color! It's almost like psychedelic. And to me the ariocarpus hybrid bud looks nice enough by itself too. It's like a rose. Two words: absolutely beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

Re: Pompoms first seeds
8 months log. The space starts slowly to run out. I never imagined to come this far with the seedlings which I sowed in the bags without any previous experience. But to be honest, I haven't done much. The seedlings have done the work and I've been just a irregular visitor with water. I can't believe...
