Re: What cactus books hold the test of time?
The Complete Book of Cacti & Succulents by Terry Hewitt is a good book for beginners. Must read books... In my opinion A Cactus Odyssey is my favorite book on the topic. It is not a grow guide though. It is a collection of through Central and South America looking for classic examples of common ...

Re: What are you all reading?
I'm reading now " Journey to the End of the Night " by Louis-Ferdinand Celine. The book revealed in front of me all the cruelties of the capitalist and imperialist system, showed the power of human life and its importance before patriotism, nationalism, the monetary system, and so on. I wa...

Re: How to stop or slow a cacti's growth
Some cacti grow profoundly slowly - some of my Gymnocalycium sit still for years, maybe developing a new spine during the summer growth cycle, others are just tiny plants (Pygmaeocereus, some Rebutia).

Re: Keeping track of your collection?
I'm using my own cactus daily planner for all my plants. It's not quite all that I want but it's ok for now. You can make watering schedules, and tracks age, but no real way of tracking growth unfortunately. If you do the watering schedules and you have plants outside I would highly recommend you gr...

Re: Anyone used Neem oil or essential oils on cacti?
I used neem oil on mine Trichocerus cacti for gnats. If you can, find a friendly spider to hang out in your plants. I had a 100% reduction in flying no-see-ums after importing a jumping spider.

Re: What to Do .....?
Hello all !
Help me too! I know that I definitely need to repot, so I'm going to do that. And think that my pot needs some more gravel to help with drainage but should I get a post to support my taller cactus? And does my smaller one have rot? The dark area is slightly squishy when poked.
