Re: Updated seed lists

Just wanted to update that I have received my order from Hobby Brno. The only wait for me was being invoiced for my order, which I believe is due to how Brno sources their seeds. Apart from that, they were quick to reply and send my order once invoiced and paid for. All in all I am very happy with t...

Re: Updated seed lists

Cactus Zhiv in the Ukraine has just been updated: www.cactus-zhiv.com Don't have experience ordering here myself just yet, but soon I will have as there are some interesting things on this list... Well, I got the seeds in pretty quick. Hey Aiko, were the seed packets labelled with genus and species...

Re: Updated seed lists

Is anyone else waiting on an invoice from Cactus Hobby Brno? I figured I might be waiting even longer than now but then I saw you got confirmation already, Aiko. Order was accepted on Nov 22 after I broke the spread sheet 3 times :) Are you still waiting for an invoice yet? My order was accepted on...

Re: Updated seed lists

I do. I have ordered multiple times (and also this year). But you need to be patient with many of the Czech sellers. It can take a few months before you get the seeds. Hi Aiko You let me know previously that Hobby Brno sends seed packets labelled with the catalog number rather than the botanical na...

Fluoro Ballast Heat and Safety

Hi all I recently purchased some second hand t8 fixtures. 3x double 36w fixtures with wall plugs. I am guessing they are running off magnetic ballasts as there are the tell tale lines when I take photos. I have read that they can run at 60c (140f) and this is normal. However, one pair feels hotter t...

Re: Feedback on cactus-hobby.eu

I have good experience with Cactus Hobby Brno. But be aware they take a lot of time (many weeks to a few months) before your order is in. And also be aware their list has been updated in October. See: http://cactiguide.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=32102&hilit=updated+seed+list&start=22...

Re: Hana's cacti

Thanks for the response Frank and others.
It is so interesting to me to get an idea of the people that cultivate these plants.
I hope I make it to a similar age and the cacti do to.

Hi Dave

Thanks for the info, there is a local source here for limestone and the like so I will look into that.

Rocks as pots/planters

Hi As I have grown over the years the look of habitat/natural plants has appealed more and more to me. I will probably always be grafting and pushing cacti for breeding purposes however I now want to grow a percentage of my collection as specimen plants in their natural looking state. I am intereste...

Re: Hana's cacti

Hi Frank

Thanks so much for posting these and your blog. I have followed these for a couple of years now.

I have always wanted to ask, do you sell seeds or plants to cover the cost of your hobby?
Just trying to work out how I can justify building more greenhouses :)

Re: Hello from the Southern Hemisphere

Hi :)

I am in Aotearoa / New Zealand.
Will post updates, the Pterocactus seeds and seedlings are crazy, haven't seen anything like this in the cactus family.

Hello from the Southern Hemisphere

Hi :) I am in the southern hemisphere and have been growing cacti for seven years. I grow mainly Trichocereus and Mexican miniatures. This year I bought some seed based on sources recommended on this site. I am sowing out of season but have some CFLs and a heatmat and plan on doing some grafting to ...
