Re: Unsure what's wrong

What's interesting is the roots look ok. It's just the interior which rotted out. Thanks Aiko, looks like that's it. Anyone have thoughts on a soil mix for this type?

Re: Unsure what's wrong

Further cutting on the base... looks bad. I think I saved the top piece just in time!

Re: Unsure what's wrong

Yes, the bottom is flat. Not sure on the id of the cactus.

Re: Unsure what's wrong

It was planted very deep, almost no room for roots. There were a couple squishy spots so I cut the top off, now it'll sit to dry.

Re: Unsure what's wrong

Will be digging it out today, agreed on the soil. It's what it came with, I should have changed it out. The dish under is just something I set it on to keep the counter clean, the pot had lots of holes in the bottom.

My previous cuttings never did take, but one I did this summer finally did! Will have to repot to a better mix soon. I've read myrtillocactus could use a bit more organic than some types?

Unsure what's wrong

I've had this since this summer, unsure of species. Whatever happened moved quickly. I can't figure out if it was too much water or too little. I try to be sparing and only water when dry. It was watered not long ago, think it was ok then. I was thinking of removing the soil and looking at the roots...

Re: A few to identify

Possibly, I'll get some better pictures of it soon. The piece growing on top has gotten larger.

Re: What to use for scale

Good point about the flowers, I'm a beekeeper so I'm always careful about that.

What to use for scale

I have a small prickly pear that has scale. I've been carefully removing them, but they come back. My understanding is a systemic pesticide is needed. What should I use on it?

Re: Myrtillocactus Cuttings

Does it need a certain temperature range to root?

Is this going to be multiple branches or just one?
