Re: When should I expect to see some new growth?

I live at 2,800' in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia (37.1, -80.3). https://www.bestplaces.net/climate/city/virginia/floyd This is the first time that I have used a substrate like this. Do you think that I may need to water more frequently than every 10 days (or when the substrate seems dry 2 cm...

Re: When should I expect to see some new growth?

It was that color before, maybe not quite as red as I think that may be its reaction to the direct sunlight. Do you think I should water it more frequently that once every 10 days?

Re: Echinocactus sp.

There are a few offsets but they are small.

I repotted this cactus about a month ago. It is important to me that this plant does well. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Re: When should I expect to see some new growth?

Thanks Dave, I shall do that now.

How long typically is it before I begin to see some recovery and new growth?

When should I expect to see some new growth?

Hello,

It has been approximately four weeks since I repotted my old friend in an inorganic substrate. To date I have not seen any new growth. Is that normal? If so, about when should I expect to see some new growth?

Cheers,

Re: Hello from Washington

Greetings. I'm new here too but I've learned a lot already.

I really like Washington state. I regret not buying land on the shore of Lake Quinault when I had the opportunity.

Re: Watering

Thanks Spiky and Dave. That's good to know. Right now I have only two cacti and three Jades. I'd like to keep a golden barrel but they don't like me :)

Watering

I've had cacti for many years but on looking through these posts I think that I may have been watering them incorrectly all the while. When I water my cacti, I first make sure that the substrate is completely dry then I submerge the entire pot to within one centimeter of the top of the substrate and...

Re: Damaged spines

People are not my favorite animals lol. It could have been worse I guess. At least the spines did not die in vain; they protected the plant from a nasty burn.

Thanks Harald!

Indeed you are correct. They are all in pots. Inside in the Winter outside in the Summer.

Re: Damaged spines

Thanks Elie. I tried that and I also tried using Isopropyl alcohol to soften the glue but it didn't work. When I removed the glue and the spines, and the areoles too I fear, I saw why. The glue has surrounded the base of each cluster of spines. If I had not lost my memory card, I'd post a snapshot. ...

Salutations from the "Old Dominion"

I am a public school teacher of students in AP Biology, AP Environmental Science, and General Chemistry here in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, USA. I have attached a photo of my back "yard". It's not exactly cactus country :) I have been a C & S fan for many years but have never...
