Re: Strange growth pattern - help requested
I learned my lesson about sunburn the hard way, on a sad April day years ago. :( Always good to keep in mind! Fortunately the area where I plan to place this cactus already has a small fan installed for air circulation. I overwinter some of my carnivorous plants there so he will be in good company. ...

Re: Strange growth pattern - help requested
Thank you, Download, for the suggestion to use a reflective enclosure! I have material that would work for that purpose. Fred - everything you've said makes sense. I did give it some water before leaving town, never expecting it to start growing again (since it hadn't in so long!) and it was indeed ...

Re: Strange growth pattern - help requested
Thank you, Steve and Fred! I appreciate your recommendations. I had heard positive things about Mars Hydro, so I will try one. One question: would it be best to give it a full, say, 12 hours of light, or try to match the timing to the current day length? Keep in mind that I don't necessarily want th...

Strange growth pattern - help requested
Hello everyone, Some background: I purchased this cactus several years ago. That first summer, it tripled in height from 12 inches to about 36 inches; it grew so quickly you could almost watch it add new spines in real time! Anyway, that fall/winter, all growth ceased. It still appeared healthy, and...

Re: Normal growth?
I've used these a few times for small plants with long roots/taproots:

They seem to be working out pretty well.

Re: Source for small pots with straps?
We ended up purchasing one of those "Dura-Lar acetate alternative sheets" from MisterArt.com (thickness 0.015 inch). My husband cut the sheet into strips and then we attached them to the pots using eyelets and eyelet setting pliers. I'm pleased by how they turned out! P1013038clx.jpg P1013...

Re: Source for small pots with straps?
Goodness, I ha dmany old ones that I think got thrown away. Maybe I should start saving them for folks who want them! Yes, I cringe when I think about how many I discarded before realizing that I could use them in this way! Perhaps (and just perhaps because I haven't tried it) you could ask at your...

Re: Source for small pots with straps?
Similar pot suspension straps that clip to plastic pot rims are available in the UK from Garden Centres, but I don't know about USA. However you may find them if you "Google" pot hangers:- https://nurseryandgardensupplies.com.au/product-category/hanging-baskets/ Those work pretty well for...

Re: Source for small pots with straps?
As someone who has done some bodging/DIY, but also serious arts... For a very utilitarian purpose: you could try getting small plastic pots, punching a small hole and wrapping twine through it? If you want the plastic, staples and those clear projector sheets cut up could work too. Just get some pl...

Source for small pots with straps?
P1012966clx.jpg Does anyone know where I might be able to purchase more (maybe a few dozen) of these pots with plastic straps? I have only found them in use on Altman's plants sold at Home Depot, etc. I think they're just meant to be used for ease of handling the cacti in the store, but I find them...

Stapelia?
Can anyone help identify this succulent, which I think is a Stapelia of some kind? Or will I have to wait for a flower? The stems are fuzzy/velvety.

I've had good experiences with FlytrapStore.com and California Carnivores. (Flytraps and Sarracenia, all healthy and growing like crazy!)

Yes, it is native. I have a large patch of it and it does very well in northeastern PA. I love it! Just sent you a PM.
