Re: Pseudolithos migiurtinus from seedling journey

They look sun stressed... Ive got seedlings about half as old and significantly larger and greener. They were outside in the shade over summer and now it's winter here I've got them on heat under lights.

Re: supergodzilla seed growing

As some of my seedlings reach one year old, I thought I would reflect back on the process, which may offer advice and/or suggestions for anyone else thinking of sowing these plants. This is not to suggest at all that my methods are perfect (or even good!) but for many of these species, there is almo...

Re: Anyone need some M. geometrizans cuttings?

If your offer is serious, I'd put my hand up for some. Could do with the grafting stock.

Re: supergodzilla seed growing

Thought I'd update the thread with some recent photos of some seedlings... I've been sowing lots of strange and unusual things lately so will update the thread more comprehensively soon! https://i.imgur.com/LXw9XXb.jpg?1 Euphorbia obesa, 7 months old. https://i.imgur.com/jqTHR3F.jpg Euphorbia bupleu...

Re: Fungus on seedlings, again

When you’re careful with sterilising soil and other components, I find that the only real source of fungal infection comes from the seed coats themselves. Since you can’t just nuke seeds in the microwave, you’ve got to get a bit creative with sterilisation. Ive done a bit of research and quite a few...

Seeking advice on sowing

After purchasing the excellent book ‘Secrets of Namaqualand Succulents,’ I’ve cambered down the rabbit hole of buying winter growing South African geophytic bulb seeds. Autumn is fast approaching but there is very little info online about growing these genera from seed. Does anyone have any experien...

Re: supergodzilla seed growing

I've been building an overly complex spreadsheet with which to track my seedlings. Makes it a lot easier to report their progress in this thread. Lots of things have been popping up lately, here's how it looks:

Re: supergodzilla seed growing

Yesterday, I sowed two pots of some seeds that had been at the top of my most desired list for quite some time.

Re: supergodzilla seed growing

Newly sown seeds are doing well, but while I give them some time to grow, I thought it would be interesting to revisit some of the succulent seeds I sowed quite ambitiously in the cool days of winter. For today: three Pachypodium, two Euphorbia and two Dorstenia. I've never grown any of these genera...

Re: pseudolithos seeds

Couple of things - firstly, Pseudolithos aren't mesembs, so if you're trying to grow them with mesemb-like culture it's not going to work out too well. That photo does look like a very sad, very stretched pseudolithos seedling to me. The only way it would be so stretched would be if it was strugglin...

Re: pseudolithos seeds

I can't speak from extensive experience, but I've got some Pseudolithos migiurtinus seedlings just under the 3 month mark and they're looking very healthy at this point. They seem to have pretty simple needs at present - they're kept warm, shaded (but in bright light) and watered from below whenever...

Re: supergodzilla seed growing

Some seeds from my first sowing have started popping up, but no E. abdita seeds at this stage. I will give everything a bit of time and update the thread with a more comprehensive overview in a few weeks. Anyway, I received a package from Klub Kaktasaru Hradec Kralove (KKHK) just the other day. My e...

Re: supergodzilla seed growing

Your record keeping and updates impress me greatly. Thank you for sharing. Thank you - I very much enjoy keeping these records and writing them up, and it's nice that I'm not the only one taking something from them. Now -- as I have very little self-control, I have been purchasing more seeds and to...

Re: When and why do you open bags innbaggie method?

I haven't heard about doing such a thing - I would *guess* the idea is to provide some fresh air, but the other huge risk is introducing a pathogen into what is otherwise an ideal environment for rot and fungi. Personally I wouldn't do it. That said, many people say you should never open the baggies...
