Re: A few questions concerning some species

@7george wow, thank you for the detailed information! This is very interesting to read. So, in conclusion, does that mean that I may have to wait until early summer for some seeds to germinate, unless I put them near the radiator? I am not sure about the latter variant. I'll measure the temperature ...

Re: Propagation of asterias from seed

Hanazono, I must say, you are a source of inspiration for me to grow some more Arios and Astros. Your plants are stunning and I envy you for your excellent growing skills!
I hope I will be as experienced as you one day.

Re: A few questions concerning some species

Sorry for the double post, I hope this is okay! A new question arose: Since I am purchasing 2 mixed seed packages, I was wondering when the seedlings are developped far enough to be identified? And I thought my last post might have been a bit misleading, concerning the space issues, but the huge gar...

Re: A few questions concerning some species

Sun and heat are no problem in the summer. We had 40°C last year (in the shadow) for a few days and that happens every other year. Weeks over 30°C are not unusual. The last few winters became less cold so I think the climate change is definetly happening already. The last summer was super dry aswell...

Re: A few questions concerning some species

Thanks for the info! Well, I guess I kinda do the baggy method, without the baggy. My last years seedlings are in enclosed old ice-cream containers without (!) drainage holes. I did not sterilize anything before starting the seeds though, just cleaned the small containers, added seramis, sprayed it ...

Re: A few questions concerning some species

Oh, of course. My fault!
I was so used to keeping my seedlings sealed that I totally forgot that other species don't need that.

So, how long should I keep the normal cacti sealed then? 2-3 months?

I remember that I still have seeds from the ariocarpi, so i could put them with aztekium, right?

Re: A few questions concerning some species

Thank you guys for all the replies! So, normal cactus treatment means temperatures between 21-28°C and germination in light? At least that is what I did with the ariocarpi and astros (I think it was 26°, all germinated after 2 days!). I am sorry for all these questions, this is my second batch and I...

A few questions concerning some species

Hey guys! I am thinking about ordering seeds from koehres, since the last seeds from them all germinated without exception. The problem is, I have no idea how to germinate/grow the species I am interested in. Those are: Aztekium ritteri Clistanthocereus samnensis Ferocactus acanthodes v. lecontei I ...

Re: inects that can fly on to soil and lay eggs.

My boyfriend had those little flys that come from white tiny maggots in the soil. Sorry, i don't know the exact english word, but he was able to get rid of them with those yellow sticky sheets that you put into the soil. Pure mineral substrate could help aswell, but i guess that depends on the Pest.

Re: Sansevieria Masoniana

You could cut off new leafes, but i myself would prefer to let it grow, so that i will have a nice huge plant one day.
You could propagate the new leafes and send me one though :D

Re: Euphorbia Obesa - pups

The mother plant has something like 5cm in total, so i would like it to use its energy for new growth and not for the pups. Also, when it comes to looks, i prefer the classic form without pups. Anyways, how do you continue, once you have stopped the bleeding of the sap and they have dried off? Do I ...

Re: Euphorbia Obesa - pups

Thank you so much for the fast reply! I never would have guessed that there is a method like that! Since the plant has 15ish pups of 1cm each, i am not too scared to lose some, but of course keeping them all would be better. Anyways, this means that i have some test subjects :D So, what is the scien...

Euphorbia Obesa - pups

Hey guys, the luck was on my side and i have found myself an Obesa at my local Hardware store. Of course it is a tiny guy, but, surprisingly, it already has a lot of pups. So, because I don't want to risk my health with the plant sap, i am thinking about methods to safely remove the pups and close t...

Re: Please recommend growlights!

Thank you guys a lot for your help! I will definetly check out some Hardware stores. I bet they have something that fits :) On another note, now that we're at it. I have a very young drooping prickly pear and wanted to ask if there is something i should pay attention to with this species. Oh well, i...
