Re: Not sure what to do =/

I really have to cut it off 😟 my mom just bought that for me. Is that what's also happening to my tall cacti?

Nothing else to do but cut huh?

Re: I have no idea whats going on?

Thank you so much for your help!! I've scraped off a lot with my succulent kits tweezers and scissors. I've also ordered "Bonide - Systemic House Plant Insect Insecticide". I'm thinking about pouring an oil over it to help it while I wait for the insecticide.

I have no idea whats going on?

My little porch garden has been doing really well! With all of y'alls advice they seem to be thriving :D But in the last week or two I have had a problem. I just lost a balloon cactus that was SUPER gooey on the inside and brown. It completely fell apart. Now I have noticed two other cacti with some...

Thank you!!! I appreciate it and the advice!!

The top of a succulent

I had a friend give me these two little beauties :) They were apart of a large succulent that was dying. These two were the only ones alive. I cleaned them up, they had LOTS of dead petals on them. I cut the deadish looking stump off (looked very healthy after I did that) and then planted them in my...

New succulent from Ma- Aloe maybe?

My ma got this succulent (one directly in the front middle) form Disney World and mailed it up to me as a nice little surprise. Thinking it's in the aloe family maybe? The braiding of it has me really unsure.

Re: transplanting

What causes problems with wet soil isn't the wet so much as lack of air - the water fills up the air spaces in the mix. Pumice holds a lot of air, even as it absorbs some water. It's basically volcanic glass with a lot of little bubbles in it. Water quickly enters those bubbles that have fairly lar...

Re: Custom Cactus Soil Mix

Thanks y'all for the advice!! I'm going to do the 80/20 mineral to soil mix fir the cacti and probably 60/40 for my succulents. I'm also going to do the top layering, I have found a lot of cool stones on Amazon that I'm going to use. Think that one of my Golden Barrels is going to look great with re...

Re: Custom Cactus Soil Mix

So I'm stumbling into the thread because I'm SO confused. I have cacti and succulents in Charleston, SC growing in pots on my porch. I have repotted them once now and I think I have to do that again 😭 I used 50% potting soil 25% pumice soil and 25% fine sand. Now I'm told I did the wrong sand.... S...

Re: Drowning!?!

If the roots are ok, I'd let it dry a few days before re-potting it - and I agree, leave out the fine sand. Pot volume should always be based on the size of the roots, not the top of the plant. If you're forced to use a larger pot. to accommodate the top or for stability, you can reduce the volume ...

Re: Drowning!?!

The kind of sand which is used for cactus and succulents is not what most people think of when they say sand. It is actually small sharp rocks, many hundreds of times bigger than what most people think of as sand. The top two are appropriate for most cactus and succulents. The bottom two are not. A...
