Re: Trichocereus

Just wanted to make an update. The plant grew a lot over the last years (unfortunately, without more flowers), now it looks quite differently. Based on the second plant which I got in the meantime with very similar spination and precise identification, I now believe it is Trichocereus camarguensis. ...

Re: Cleistocactus smaragdiflorus?

Our C.straussii with 3 branches is not much higher, but the branches are thicker.
To the right is Pachycereus pectin-aboriginum from the local plant shop (cutted branch top), grows quite irregularly, this year has yet to start. Last year it did better:

Re: Cleistocactus smaragdiflorus?

It finally flowered this year, and I am now quite certain it is Cleistocactus hyalacanthus ssp. tarijensis. It is quite a nice plant now, with 2 stems still going in parallel (now circa 70cm high), and 2 smaller ones continuing the growth. Cleistocactus hyalacanthus ssp. tarijensis1.jpg Cleistocactu...

Re: Two Ferocactus plants

Thanks for your suggestion! I was already told elsewhere that it could be F.recurvus ssp.greenwoodii, the description fits its appearance pretty well. Also it is described as quite slow-growing, which also fits, so I will stop here for now. In the "Ferocactus" book by Pilbeam and Bowdery i...

Re: Two Ferocactus plants

Thanks for your reply! Could the second one be something else? This is the photo of my F.latispinus when it was of similar age (around 8-10 years), it developed adult spination much earlier. In fact, the above photo of the second plant is from half a year ago, it developed some additional spines sin...

Two Ferocactus plants

I have these two plants for quite a long time, but had always doubts regarding their identification. Both never flowered for me. The first one was bought as Hamatocactus (now Thelocactus) setispinus, I saw something similar identified as Hamatocactus (Ferocactus) hamatocanthus v.sinuatus, but this o...

Re: A problem with Uebelmannia crebispina

Not sure it can be mites, as we process all the collection with insecticides on regular basis, and there are no mites on any other plant. I suspected fungal disease, so we also processed it with a fungicide in a strong concentration just in case (no changes in a process so far), but it is quite slow...

A problem with Uebelmannia crebispina

See the attached pictures. This problem started from some sun damage this summer (reddish coloration of the skin), unfortunately, instead of going back to healthy skin as it was before (the cactus itself is more than 15 years old and was under open sun all the time, so slightly reddish sunburns happ...

Re: Cleistocactus smaragdiflorus?

While repotting, the old seller's label was found buried in the soil. According to this label, the seller identified it (tentatively - with a question mark) as C.brookeae v.flavispinus (listed just as C.brookeae in many sources). To me, C.hyalacanthus or C.smaragdiflorus still look more likely as th...

Re: Cleistocactus smaragdiflorus?

Thanks! Yes, they both seem to fit. Will wait for flowering (it was bought 5-6 years ago as a young plant so it is not much older, now it is about 40cm high).

Re: Trichocereus

Thanks for the detailed answer! How old could it be? Regarding the growth - the indication that it feels a bit better now is that the new growth is on the 5 out of 7 stems and when it came a year ago it was only on 2 (the flower photo is from 2018, it was almost all dark). So hopefully time and full...

Trichocereus

This beautiful cactus came to us late in life, from the person who did not know anything about it. The younger spines are yellow, the older ones are greyish-black. The flower has a strong tuberosa-like odor i.e. it is like the flower of T.pachanoi and others. Is this T. litoralis? It looks somehow s...
