Re: Cultivation of a Dioscorea Elephantipes.
I am sure it's still alive it wouldn't give up that easily. Give it some time. I noticed your citrus tree. Do you leave yours outside all year? I've been trying to grow one. It does fabulous outdoors but when I bring it in for the winter it loses all it's leaves and struggles to grow until I put it ...

Re: Cultivation of a Dioscorea Elephantipes.
Aaaaagggghhh! That's a bummer!! Hopefully it grows back. I had to cut one of mine back because it was growing through a window screen. After the cut back it branched out from the remaining stem. Maybe yours will send out a number of smaller new shoots. Mine really slowed down in new growth almost to...

Re: 10 new succulents (:
I am horrible with names. But there growth habitats tell the tale how to care for them. #2 a slow grower close to the ground= very little water, good sun. 1,4. Medium sized, medium growth. Medium water good sun. #10 Has a "sunscreen" the fuzz. Give lots of sun. Medium growth and gets a goo...

Re: Cultivation of a Dioscorea Elephantipes.
There from 2 different batches. The one in the picture has the best fissures. I have another one from that batch that has 1 or 2 deep fissure's. But the 2 have the smallest cortex's at this point. All my other ones are smooth. I like the one in the picture because the fissure's are very evenly space...

Because they grow so fast I like to put a timeline on them. This is one of my favorites because of the deep cuts in it. A lot deeper than the other ones.

Re: Cultivation of a Dioscorea Elephantipes.
How much do you pay for these plants? When mine go dormant again I plan on selling all but 2 of them. Just would like to know a reasonable price to ask. I am going to look more into the "Mexican" type

Re: Cultivation of a Dioscorea Elephantipes.
Here's a few pics of the youngsters I have. As you can see in the pictures the cadex is getting 0 sunlight. Even from the start they had minimal sun. The new growth easily found good sun. The one with the bunny ears on it. last growing season, the growth didn't even make it to the top of the ears. I...

Re: Cultivation of a Dioscorea Elephantipes.
Since mine started growing again I put them in a east facing window. There doing extremely well. Almost to good there attacking everything around them. LoL. I am not going to be able to move them or any other around them until they take there rest and I can cut them back. Lesson learned on my part.....

Re: Extremely important that I don't kill these - what are they?
I would love a little greenhouse but don't have the space for one. There's a small number of succulents I found can take the winters outdoors here. I found what will kill most of them isn't the cold itself. It's the early spring weather. Cold and wet and the temperature rollercoaster ride of early s...

Re: Saguaro in Zone 5 in a Greenhouse
I use this to add grit to my potting mix. It's super cheap and easy for me to find. It also looks more natural than perlite. Be very thoughtful about this, because sometimes this varies bag-to-bag or batch-to-batch. Some of it crumbles once it's been wet a while (a few hours) and some of it becomes...

Re: What are these spots on my cutting?
It might have gotten to cold. I've bought cactus pads from the grocery store and tried to grow them just for fun. There kept in a cooler as well, they all had the same type of spots. I haven't had any success growing the pads but they were cheap. Hope you have better luck.

You have white roots witch is good. Put in well draining soil and let it dry out for a while.
