Re: metsolt's seedlings

T. pachanoi seem to be doing well, as I expected it. I can't wait for it to start growing faster soon! The only thing is, I reused a pot with soil in which I tried to grow E. missouriensis var missouriensis and they wouldn't germinate at all , but now when I had sowed TP , Escobarias started poppin...

Re: Growing Lophophora williamsii from seed

Can anyone tell me what is hardiness of L. williamsii? Something between -7°C and -12 °C depending on population origin. Okay, thank you! Mine went through a few days of very cold temperatures, going down to -12°C but it happened 2 weeks ago and I don't see any change on them so far. I had made my ...

Re: Growing Lophophora williamsii from seed

Can anyone tell me what is hardiness of L. williamsii? I know there are many factors that play a port in it, but in conditions like a small pot with mostly mineral substrate and plants that have been dormant for 3 months now? They're in a shielded dry place without any frost no matter how cold it ge...

Re: Non-viable seeds?

I don't remember...have to check the seeds I've collected recently. It's interesting to know that self-fertility can vary within the species. There are very few sources of information about it. The seed list of ADBLPS brings information about self-fertility and you can see there that there is varia...

Re: Non-viable seeds?

I have seen two types of Non Viable seeds. The first are the seeds which are hollow, and without an embryo, mostly on opuntia species. The other is seeds that are lighter in color, mostly on echinopsis. That is interesting! I haven't dealt with Opuntia much, I must admit they're not my favorite gen...

Re: Non-viable seeds?

I must say, with as much as I know about cacti by now, I am still confused whether or not 'nonviable seeds' exist. I mean, do cacti actually produce empty shells that won't grow? I heard people claim this, but never actually saw it referenced. Also, from the seeds I picked the other day, I decided I...

Re: metsolt's seedlings

I don't even bother. I just sow them. :) 8-[ Funny you went through the trouble of counting them. I just call that "one batch of seeds". There was something in me that didn't let me have peace until I counted them. My counting method is weird, but I took a high res photo, opened it on my ...

metsolt's seedlings

Hello everyone! I decided to start a new thread so I wouldn't spam Loph thread anymore. Here are some seedlings that I currently have under grow lights. My grow lights are now 2 LED 6500K bulbs with some 3000 lumen output, roughly. It's cheap and improvised, but it works amazing. Under the images yo...

Re: Escobaria sneedi v. leei offset

They get maybe +5 or 6 C (windowsill) but maybe the problem is in my inadequate care i.e. not often re-potting or nutrients. From other hand my E. sneedi v. sneedi plant has been more regular bloomer. You should definitely track that down. Do you plan on using any fertilizer that could encourage bl...

Maybe the cold will stimulate flowers. My potted plant stays for many years with 100 offsets but no flowers seen so far.
Are they really that demanding? What temperature do they get during dormancy?

Re: Escobaria sneedi v. leei offset

I though I could update this thread. The plant is growing well, it's its second winter. The last winter it got down to -7°C and this winter it was -6°C a few times already. I hope it flowers next spring since I hear offsets usually flower the second year.

Re: Growing Lophophora williamsii from seed

Wonderful healthy seedlings - congratulations! =D> Best wishes K.W. Thank you! That is always nice to hear! :D Great update… amazing how they barely changed in plumpness Right? I must say I was just as shocked, but also another bigger Loph (I'd guess it's 3 years old or so, it was a gift) also bare...

I must say, they turned out great!

I am also starting T. pachanoi, in fact they're finishing germination and I hope mine turn out to be as healthy as yours.

Re: Growing Lophophora williamsii from seed

I was expecting an update on that pot of lopho Okay, here they are! It's an overcast day so the colors aren't as vivid, sadly. They are in the attic now, last watered sometime in October, but barely got any softer. The temperature went a bit below 0° a few times already, but it is mostly above free...

I am so sorry for disappointing :( They are dormant now, not much has changed since the last update, but I will take a picture tomorrow and post it here.
