Re: Carnegiea with red markings
They are growing in a spot that gets sun up until midday and then dappled light. It is just strange because it is only occuring around the crown and that is the oldest of my Saguaros and none of the other younger ones are displaying this. I am hoping it is just sunburn though

Carnegiea with red markings
Hi, I just noticed that some of the aereoles around the crown of my Carnegiea gigantea have started to redden with clusters of little red dots. I have had a couple of other cacti get some type of rot that starts as a brown/orange around the aereoles on the crown but not red. Sorry the photos couldn'...

Re: Help with Cacti ID's please
Thanks Tom in Tucson. They are both interesting Mammillarias that I hadn't heard of before so a nice surprise.

Re: Help with Cacti ID's please
Thanks for that. Flowers would definitely make things easier. Hopefully they are not too far off.

Help with Cacti ID's please
Hi, I need some help with some ID's on two seedlings that cropped up in a batch of Mammillaria crucigera seed. At first I thought they were some random Mammillaria but as they matured I became less unsure. I thought the one with the long red spines was possibly a Thelocactus. Any help would be appre...

Re: Mammillaria Sanchez mejoradae pollination
Thanks for that. I had read that mammillarias are resistant to hybridization and that cross pollination results in the offspring most likely being the same as the parent plant from which the seed originated. Not sure if that is true or not. I have only just started out experimenting with hand pollin...

Mammillaria Sanchez mejoradae pollination
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone could tell me if it is possible to pollinate Mammillaria Sanchez mejoradae with any other mammillarias? I only have one and they are hard to come by. Would love to get some seed from my plant.

Re: Mystery echinocerus
The correct name is rubispinus, since it was originally published as Echinocereus pectinatus var. rubispinus G.Frank & A.B.Lau. Later it was transferred to a variety of Echinocereus rigidissimus, as Echinocereus rigidissimus var. rubispinus by Nigel Taylor. People get confused since for many ca...

Re: Mystery echinocerus
Thanks so much for the info guys. Your information has been very helpful.
I have seen spelling of both rubispinus and rubrispinus online. It is a tad confusing

Re: Mystery echinocerus
I had a look at some photos of a reichenbachii and thought the spines looked a bit different. Might be a regular rigidissimus. Most of the photos online show them with the purple spines and the cactus-art website describes them as having bands of colour but they did have one photo of a plant with pu...

Mystery echinocerus
Hi All, I am new to this forum and would be glad for any assistance in identifying the species of echinocereus in the attached photos. Unfortunately it has not yet flowered. I grew it from a batch of seeds that were echinocereus rigidissimus var. rubispinus. However, all the other plants from that b...
