Re: A visit to a cacti garden in Indonesia

Gorgeous garden
Thank you for sharing with us.

It does show the stubborn resilience of some cactus to take that kind of abuse and still seemingly thrive

Re: Grafted cactus

Thanks gemhunter and green knight My situation is that I am only here for a variable few weeks a year and de grafting requires a bit of ongoing maintenance until the plant is established etc I dont think it's going to be possible to do this with the limited time I have. This occasion lockdown has fo...

Re: Shriveling Cactus

Oh the poor poor thing!! Its suffocating in that pot and that's why the rot has taken hold Get rid of the pot or drill a hole into the bottom of it Remove the rotten one Clean off the peat soil media from the healthy one cutting off any rotting roots Repot into a much more free draining soil media i...

Re: Is it okay to bury the corked part of a cactus during repotting?

I'm no expert but thinking about it and my previous experience has been to utilise potting g media at the bottom half and fill up with fast draining gravel at the top where the plant has corked
I'm sure some experts will point you in the right direction

Re: My flowering Cacti 2020

Harald the colours look the same to me despite the differences in lens renditions I breed oriental game birds specifically the old fighting cocks strain of Asil.... Note... I dont use them for fighting at all. They are hard feathered and the pure black ones have a metallic sheen to them that in the ...

Re: Grafted cactus

Thank you so much for your time and informative answer
It has answered most of what I need to know
I just need to establish now what this rootstock is as it's the one used by most nurseries here
Importantly is it likely to need regrafting in 12 months or so

Grafted cactus

Hi Please excuse my lack of knowledge in this respect. I would like to learn more. What happens typically to grafted cactus 1 Do they tend to survive for long or are they more temperamental than being grown in their own root systems. 2 Some of the cactus I have seen grafted onto rootstock is lacking...

Re: The story of my little blue Agwve

Very nice Agave. In your climat you can plant all in the garden. You have unusual sago palm, probably not revoluta, is it circinalis? Thanks I dont know its name it was planted around 7 years ago and sold to me as a juvenile ari or dune palm in localised name. At the same time I planted a cardboard...

The story of my little blue Agave

How my little blue Agave has grown over the years from being one single specimen to filling a pot then a bigger pot and now into the ground. In the ground I can see allready in two weeks it has changed its growth habit. I hope it survives here as it's going to be in the full sun. In unamended border...

Re: My flowering Cacti 2020

Wow..... E_Bonkarae has a stunning shocking pink luminous glow to its flowers. It always amazes me how some plants are able to utilise the black pigments to reflect and deflect light at different angles creating that depth of colour

What a great way to nurture and develop your cactus. It does look beautifull and I'm sure the cactus are allready responding to your care by rewarding you with extra growth flowers.

Re: Oldest plant in your collection

I suppose that because some plants can continually clone themselves. Only their DNA can show their true age. Whilst an individual growth may be only so many years old some of the rootstock could be dated back millennia...

Re: A visual comparison of roots in different media

Hi, do you mean grit = sand or something other? Antti By grit I mean small equally sized lava rock granite or pumice erc With sand my belief is that inadvertently mixing it with lime rich media and soil can make the whole mixture behave like concrete when I the confined space of a pot. There are so...
