Re: what is this odd growth?
sorry for the slow reply on this, been crazy. thanks for the replies. after reading about them, my guess is this is the result of me withholding water trying to get them to go dormant. the temperatures have been pretty high recently so they wont go to sleep, but i didnt want to water them in case th...

Re: prepping for winter [UK]
thank you all very much for the replies! <3 i will make a small greenhouse for them and i will wrap them in newspapers and keep them as insulated as possible. i guess the newspaper would help absorb some moisture too. i will keep a thermometer in the greenhouse and in the coldest windowsill i have a...

Re: grow lights for winter indoor period
its good to hear people are getting good results using lights over winter. this winter is my first as a cacti grower and i have read a lot of conflicting information on lights. my plan at the moment is to bounce them between outside and a cold spot inside, depending on conditions. maybe in the futur...

Re: grow lights for winter indoor period

Re: is this rot?
it did not look like that until after it was knocked off the table. i had pulled it out to check for roots a few days before and it was looking great. it is still hard though, so thats a good sign. today is a week since it was pulled from the soil. i think i am going to give it a few more days thoug...

Re: is this rot?
thank you for the reply. i just had a look to see what it felt like and it is not soft at all, it is just as firm as the rest of the cactus and it is dry. i was also surprised to see that already a lot of the black colouring has faded. i feel like this poor little guy will be okay! <3 i will keep it...

is this rot?
about 2-3 weeks ago my trichocereus was knocked off the side (not by me!) while it was just starting to throw roots. one of the roots was broken off but there was another long root that looked undamaged and healthy, as did the other beginings of roots that were starting to show. i repotted it in the...

Re: Cactus smuggling ring busted.
Ebay seller raising the price by putting "rare" on their listing is pretty much the same as putting a cactus on CITES appendix I. Therefor from a conservational point of view it's the wrong tactic, but it's pretty common that politicians and authorities are not known to be very pragmatic,...

Re: Cactus smuggling ring busted.
Trouble is Agriculture, home building, road building and Dam Building kill many thousands more than ever cactus thieves do. The main problem is the thieves usually target small populations of highly desirable species, or the latest novelties. How many native plants did the plot your house or factor...

Re: Cactus smuggling ring busted.
I'm not sure how you equate smuggling for money to "loving cactus a little to much". Loving cactus a little to much would be stealing that many but then keeping them all for yourself. Mother nature is being decimated by selfish homosapiens. What happens today effects what happens 20 t0 30...
