Re: Exotic Cactus Collection—eBay vendor

I’m experienced. In fact I had seeds from a different vendor of the same species sown under the same conditions— good vendor seeds germinated—Exotic CC seeds of the same species did not germinate. So I think it was old seed….and not me.

Exotic Cactus Collection—eBay vendor

Has anyone ordered seeds from this vendor (Samuel Rodriguez from Homestead, FL)? I ordered 6 species, and had zero germination. I’ve heard others have had similar experiences. Seems like most of the positive reviews are along the lines of I received the package, whereas the negative reviews focus on...

Re: Cacti that don’t like high humidity

Soil mix by eye—not much organic but some peat coir and bark. Granite grit Napa 8822 and limestone chips/gravel. This is limestone from Florida, so probably different from the limestone in habitat. Water is alkaline so I add about 1TBS vinegar per 3 gallons water-gets water close to neutral. Fertili...

Best variety/ss of Ariocarpus Kotschoubeyanus?

Hi, What is considered the most desirable variety or subspecies of Ariocarpus Kotschoubeyanus and why? Seems like these are the varieties/subspecies of Ario kotschoubeyanus. Is there really that much variation among members of this species? What are the major differences? Ariocarpus kotschoubeyanus ...

Cacti that don’t like high humidity

Is there a list of cacti/succulents that tend to not do well in high humidity/high temperatures? I live in South Florida and most cacti do fairly well, but certain cacti aren’t growing much at all—e.g. Epithelantha, some Tephro species, etc. Are there certain species to avoid, and any way to deal wi...

Dorstenia soil

I’ve had a couple of Dorstenia foetida that rotted or aren’t really well rooted. I use a typical cactus mix with low organic content. Are there any tips/suggestions here?

Thanks

How to trigger Euphorbia flowering?

I have some small N African Euphorbias that I grew from seeds. They are growing on a balcony under lights. They are not flowering for me. How can I induce flowering? Do I need to change the photoperiod? Stop watering?

Thanks.

Re: fruitful.......................

I had the same experience….many fruits on huitzilopochtli but very few seeds in the fruits. I did cross pollinate with two plants. Why no seeds?

Discocactus horstii seedlings—slow loss

Hi,

Seem to be losing Discocactus horstii seedlings (about a year old) as time goes by. I think in habitat they grow in pure quartz. Should I try to make a soil of pure quartz and transplant the remaining seedlings into pure quartz?

Thanks.

Re: Source for gypsum soil in the USA

Thanks—I found this—-this is recycled drywall but it not fast dissolving like the pellets or the powder. And they sell 10 pound bags which can be sent via USPS.

Source for gypsum soil in the USA

Hi, Does anyone know of a source for gypsum containing soils in the USA? Lots of places sell pelletized and ground gypsum but this material dissolves way too rapidly to be used in a soil mix. So I’m looking either for coarse crushed gypsum or anhydrite or natural gypsum soil. I will use as part of a...

Re: Is Koehres open?

I agree - the scanned paper invoice is a bit funny (but I'm not complaining) :-) --- Have you ever reported back on germination rates (as they like you to do) - and if so what was the response. I find them a bit low but I don't know if the problem is on my my side? I emailed them that I had very po...
