Re: What are the differences between Cephalocereus senilis and espostoa

No-no, it's great you ask, I said only in relation if someone have seen them once will never confuse these speciei. :) Aha, thank you :) Just have the one plant , or rather several in one pot and it’s young, so nothing in IRL to compare it with. Agree with Anttisepp, once you have handled them clos...

Re: What are the differences between Cephalocereus senilis and espostoa

Only blind and handless may confuse these ones imho, the difference is huge. I am not sure if you are referring to my question here or the original question ? If it’s my question, it may be a dumb question, but you know, ‘if you don’t ask...’ etc. :D I find it interesting and since I am not very ea...

Re: Cereus tetragonus and a cactus

1 Cereus peruvianus cv "Paolina" (close to "Fairy Castle") == dwarf monstrose cultivar, but if to give enough space and feed some stems may overgrow others and they will look like common Cereus peruvianus (= hilmannianus etc). 2 Eriocactus warasii / magnificus, clump of seedling...

Re: Cacti- the most pestprone plants that excists?

A quick Google search for "high nitrogen fertilizer and pests" will return a lot of information. Most are superficial but all agree that plants with high nitrogen amounts will grow fast, green and luxuriant, and at same time, more pest-prone. They will invest in rapid growth not accompani...

Re: What are the differences between Cephalocereus senilis and espostoa

The most visible difference is the "hair" (which is actually hair-like spines) - Cephalocereus senilis has long, shaggy, coarse "hair", while that of Espostoas has a finer, cottony texture and is generally shorter. This is interesting! So the ‘hair’ is definitly spines and not v...

Thank you :) No greenhouse, so I am not expecting it to bloom ever.

Re: Does it need a different soil?

Hi Virginia :) The cactus looks dehydrated, the question is why.. I have neves used a moisture meter , so I don’t know how that works. But if the sensor ( I guess there must be some sort of sensor ?) is placed to high ( or to deep) in the soil, it could be that the soil around the roots are to dry? ...

Re: Cacti- the most pestprone plants that excists?

Hi MBM7 ; not me you are asking but I remember reading ( this is a few years back and unfortunately I don’t remember were) that high ammounts of Nitrogen raised the sugarlevel in the plants and this attracted more sucking bugs. Don’t know if this is correct, would be interesting to know the cause.

Re: Espostoa?

This one is Espostoa/Pseudoespostoa nana/melanostele, 3 seedlings in same pot. I'd advice to plant them separately each in own pot. Needs much sun and fresh air. Thank you very much Anttisepp :) I am a bit reluctant to pull them apart now, since it’s winter. Do you think I could wait until spring? ...

Re: A beginner's guide to repotting newly-purchased cacti

You're welcome, always glad to help - though is sounds like you figured it out quite well on your own! You probably saved the lives of those cacti by getting them out of that soaked peat. Thank you very much Greenknight :) I hope so, some of them is a bit more plump than I like them to be for the s...

Espostoa?

I got this little fellow , approx. 7-8 cm high, bought as one in a cacti mix. I am following the other tread about ‘old man’ but I am not sure if it’s permitted to ‘highjack’ someone elses tread to ask for ID, so I made my own. 3D3D61A0-2913-4115-811B-E619260B1FF3.jpeg The hair feels soft to the tou...
