Re: MrXeric's seedlings 2021

Here is an update on Batch 5, now at 4 months old. This was a rather disappointing Batch in that overall germination was low and several species didn't germinate at all. I suspect my overheating issue that killed off one pot also killed off more than a few seeds from the other pots of this Batch. Ar...

Re: Mammillaria breviplumosa

Beautiful seedlings! I'm really looking forward to growing these when seeds become more widely available.
By the way, were there any complications or special care in raising these?

Re: Ordering seeds from Europe

I ordered seeds from Koehres around January or February and the shipment was seized and destroyed. It was a small order of Pelecyphora aselliformis, a Lophophora seed mix, Epithelantha bokei, and several Turbinicarpus. Customs sent the original package wrapped in tape with a notice inside that liste...

Re: Let’s talk about spines

Spines are certainly the primary characteristic I look for in cacti! Thick, long, and dense is how I like 'em. I agree with mmcavall that hard grown will produce the best spines. It makes sense that strong sunlight (perhaps in conjunction with high heat?) will produce the best spines since fo...

That planter is filling up! ~50% germination rate is pretty good considering the temperature you're growing these in, I think!

MrXeric's Grafts

Hello, I decided to start this blog to share my current and future grafts! First is my group of what I call "mercy grafts". Most of these were weak or sick looking seedlings I tried grafting on some Selenicereus seedlings I had on hand (from seeds from a yellow-skinned dragon fruit I bough...

Re: MrXeric's seedlings 2021

Did you sow the haudeana seeds directly or treated them with acid? I sowed 5 seeds directly and I scarified the remaining 5 with sandpaper. One of the sanded seeds germinated. I tried cracking the other 4 sanded seeds near the hilum, but that failed since those seeds (along with 2 of the untouched ...

"Bois" is an intentional misspelling of the word "boys". In this case, it was used as a term of endearment for OP's new cacti.

Re: watering schedule

I group my plants into watering tiers (eg. Tier 1: 8-10days, Tier 2:10-12days, etc.). I keep track of when I watered what tier, as well as what plant belongs to what tier, on a spreadsheet. I use plant species (if they have sensitive roots for example) and pot size as basis for grouping. Throughout ...

Here's an update for Batch 4, sown over 4 months ago. Ariocarpus kotschoubeyanus v. macdowellii. https://imgur.com/XOifLL7.jpg Blossfeldia liliputana (RH2054b). At one point I had 16 seedlings but they've steadily been damping off and now there is only 5 left. :( https://imgur.com/H6i4qZQ.jpg Fraile...

Re: MrXeric's seedlings 2021

I was planning on doing a 3 month update for every batch, but time slipped away from me so it'll have to be a 4 month update now. Batch 3, sowed 4 months ago. Copiapoa lembckei (KK70). This pot suffered fungal attack (the only one in all the batches, thankfully) and I lost 7 other seedlings. I...
