Re: Root Trimming

I remember reading that thai collectors will trim the tap roots off their tap rooted cacti to make them more water tolerant. They put out more finer roots in response to losing their tap root.

cfl question

It's been a few years since I've sown any seeds but i had a little cheap reliable set up. Years ago when I started in the hobby it was recommended to me to use a 6500k cfl bulb like this https://www.amazon.com/Sylvania-26352-Light-Bulb-6500K-Daylight/dp/B07J4T5XG1/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=65...

Re: Another from SoCal

What part of So Cal are you in? We may have of the small opuntiods you are looking for I am in the los angeles area. Currently I'm looking for opuntia fragilis but I'd prefer one from a california population. I'm on a bit of a cali native plant kick right now for the most part. micropuntia, which i...

Possible Parodia

This is the only survivor from my last seed sowing some years ago now. It was a mixed batch of seeds I received in a trade if I remember correctly. I always assumed it was a mamm but taking the time today to actually try to id it I'm now leaning towards it being a parodia. I think the body shape and...

Re: Do you like cristate or monstrose forms in cacti?

some cristate/monstrose forms wont bloom at all unless a reverted offset grows on them. personally I really enjoy them both and they are a big reason why i got into cacti in the first place. My first cactus was a trichocereus bridgesii f monstrosa "clone b" or the little small jointed clum...

Re: Another from SoCal

Hello nopahl, welcome to the CactiGuide forum. With your limited space, it would not be a wise decision to grow opuntioids. I do have more space than most likely a majority of forum members, but already had to get rid of my tall prickly pear cacti. Now I am forced to either cull most of my medium-s...

Another from SoCal

Hello, hello just another new member from socal. I have been growing and collecting for the past 13 years or so. well not so much collecting the past 4 or so years. I quickly ate up all of my available space living in an apartment. But just last year I was able to free up some by giving a few extra ...
