Re: Fertilizers explained (2-part presentation) -- with 6/2023 update

Steve, K3PO4 is pretty basic, a 1% solution has a pH of 11.8 courtesy of a Google search. (Trisodium Phosphate is Na3PO4, the cleaning agent). If that is used you'll have a very alkaline solution. But, maybe it is used to neutralize the Phosphoric acid? It would help to know the pH of the GH Flora B...

Re: Help my pelecephoria

I would pot your plant in that gritty Copiapoa mix. Some here say very light misting helps rooting for some cacti at least. I hope others would chime in because I don't have experience with Pelecephora.

Re: Help my pelecephoria

Hi Vincent It would help if you told us where you are living, since this is a worldwide forum. Are you in late spring or early autumn? What is your experience level with cacti and other plants? It helps is to know how to answer you. Cacti grow slowly. I would not expect to see roots growing for mayb...

Ramapo Valley County Reservation Mahwah, NJ

My wife and I went for a walk at the Ramapo Valley County Reservation in Mahwah, NJ on March 29, 2024. We did a loop hike and passed by what is called "Cactus Ledge" on the "Vista Loop" trail with yellow blazes. The Opuntia humifusa were just waking up. They are located in a full...

Re: The role of nutrients in cacti and succulents

I noticed JR Peters (makers of popular Jack's Classic ferts) offers water analysis lab tests for $46 + one way shipping. I'm probably going to send mine in if just for the complete knowledge of macro/micro nutrients (and to think I'm fancy). I've also been meaning to test the soil of my in-ground c...

Re: Schlumbergera bridgesii disease or pest

Thank you Jerry. I really do hope that someone takes a second look! It might help if you outlined what you do for your plant as far as water, fertilizer, light, etc. I let mine get a little drier right after it blooms. I just took another look at the photo and wondered about a nutrient excess or de...

Re: Fertilizers explained (2-part presentation) -- with 6/2023 update

I haven't finished reading this thread but wanted to throw this out there whilst I'm thinking about it. This is a trace mineral fertilizer that I've long used for all my cacti and gardening endeavors: Planters II https://fertilizerbrokerage.com/wp-content/pdfs/PlantersII-Specifications.pdf "De...

Re: A "how-to" guide on acidification

I still have pouches of unopened buffer fluids. I suppose I could test the test strips on the buffer fluids. I'll have to find another source for buying test strips as I don't buy on Amazon. This thread was interesting reading. I had long assumed that my tap water would be acidic because the local ...

Thanks Nino. I doubt these are fancy. They are S. arachnoideum. If they have a cultivar name, I don't know it.

Increasing image size would make it easier to post pictures. It is a bit of a chore to resize and then post.

Sempervivum transplanting

How should I be treating Sempervivum pups when transplanting? Should I treat them like a cactus and let them dry out, pot in dry potting mix, wait a few days before watering? Or, should I treat them like any other plant? Like, dig out with a bit of a rootball and transplant immediately into slightly...

Re: Moorten Botanical Garden is still opened

Hey George, I just saw I posted these same photo's last year in a different post of yours. My apologies. I didn't remember I did it. Still trying to figure out how to grow these plants. I have begun keeping my plants in the same Eastern exposure my Malagasy Euphorbia get. Full sun until 1 pm, then s...
