Re: MrXeric's seedlings 2022

Cochemiea theresae are my favorite cacti. I tried nicking the seeds which did accelerate the germination but also lead me to killing a few crushing the seeds. I found just sowing fresh seeds to work well. My seeds were sub 6 months old and germinated well. Many suggest 'aging' the seeds for atleast ...

Re: Seedlings stopped growing.

I wouldn't change anything with those cacti that stopped growing. IME when they stop growing they usually are adjusting to more mature growth or growing underground. If you are providing water light and nutes leave them alone.

Re: Astrophytum seeds 30 days after flower

So after two weeks the seeds that were brown started to germinate and I had almost 50% germination rate. A few have died and they quite small. The white seeds which totaled 40 total had 5% germination both germinated only after 3 weeks. IDK if they will survive or not but the immature white seeds di...

Re: Astrophytum seeds 30 days after flower

Those looks like seeds that were aborted or just didn’t mature.

My seeds have not germinated yet but temps have been cool so I’ll have it a while longer.

Re: Astrophytum seeds 30 days after flower

Interestingly the seeds that were shriveled 'husks' seem to have inflated after being in germination conditions. No clue if it will germinate but they have swelled up.

Invitro I think they would germinate but might not survive normal conditions.

Re: Astrophytum seeds 30 days after flower

So after allowing these seeds to dry in a cool dark place in toilet paper the already brown seeds look alright and seem viable. The white seeds have all turned brown but most seem to have dried out excessively. In the future I'll leave the seedpod on longer but if I get white seeds again I'll attemp...

Re: Astrophytum seeds 30 days after flower

G'morning LateBloomer, Two astrophytum super kabuto grafts one of the fruits had brown seeds that looks alright but the other the seeds seem immature. Both crosses were down 30 days ago. Maybe I harvested too soon but the difference in the two seems pretty large. The white seeds also have 30% more ...

Astrophytum seeds 30 days after flower

So a cross that I've done in the past had zero germination and this time I was able to cross both ways. Two astrophytum super kabuto grafts one of the fruits had brown seeds that looks alright but the other the seeds seem immature. Both crosses were down 30 days ago. Maybe I harvested too soon but t...

Re: MrXeric's seedlings 2021

Those Cochemiea macdougallii look very clean. I didn't have any luck this year with the seeds i've sown.

Strange that those repotting with big roots didn't survive. Did you have unusual cold or hot temps?

Amazing post; can't wait for mine to bloom. This is my favorite complex and the other saboae complex are all on equal standing to me.
You did a great job :)

Re: Propagation Ariocarpus fom seed

I like to experiment a lot with my own seedlings as well. I assumed that a wetbox would result in much quicker growth especially since you grow in shade as well. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Propagation Ariocarpus fom seed

Where these neglected? They seem slower than normal growth or is this pretty much on par? For 8 year olds I expected more textured leafs

Re: MrXeric's seedlings 2021

So how do you water your Lithops? I water mine year round in summer with 30C temps and winters in 5C temps. I only had 1 survivor from 10 seeds I got as a bonus.
