Re: Shriveled up tephrocactus geometricus
Yes, the soil is basically all grit. Maybe I'll unpot them, check the roots, and repot them with some more soil mixed in. If I do everything right, should I expect to see the globes plump up rather quick? Thanks!

Re: Shriveled up tephrocactus geometricus
Thanks for the reply. I was barely watering it much at all, every couple of weeks only. I watered it a few days ago and then again today, I let it soak up to the soil line. It looked worse today (before I watered) than it has in the past, which I why I watered again. Everything I google about this s...

Shriveled up tephrocactus geometricus
Hi, I imported two nice tephrocactus geometricus'. They were stuck in customs for over 4 weeks. They looked fine out of the box, and then a few weeks after potting them, I noticed all the globes were shriveling it up. I upped the watering scheduling (about once per week now, soaking the entire pot b...

Re: Is this grow light setup enough to do anything?
Thanks guys. Since it seems I'm at least in the realm of grow light acceptability, I think I'll swap my current lights out for these, which will sit in the same shelf system: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082ZKJZP1 These will give me 1400W equivalent, are longer (so I can fit more cacti of course), and...

Re: Is this grow light setup enough to do anything?
Thanks for the explanation. That fan is actually tiny, a 40mm, I'm using it in a tropical terrarium, but yes, I will absolutely include a larger fan in this setup. The other issue is that, at that south facing window, 10 feet to the right, are my tropical plants along with a humidifier. So I'm tryin...

Is this grow light setup enough to do anything?
I'm in NYC. I have these 4 light strips mounted into a shelving unit. Four 10W, "250W Equivalent" T5's. (the amazon link for specifics: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0814L4XPL ) The lower shelf is about 22" below the lights. Some of the cacti will be in taller pots, putting them ...

Re: Black spots on TWO totem pole cactuses
Those are just shadows… but I think I’ve diagnosed it… humidity. I’m in a normal sized NYC apartment and I have a humidifier for my tropical plants. And very stupidly, this totem pole was basically 6 inches away from the darn humidifier. So I’m reorganizing some things in order to be able to keep tr...

Black spots on TWO totem pole cactuses
So about 10 days ago I received two large totem pole cactuses that I purchased off the internet. I don't think these black marks were there when I received them. I put them in well draining soil, and HAVEN'T watered them, until just 3 hours ago. Now as I move the pots back to their normal area after...

Re: Need advice on potting large totem pole cactuses
Hi Dump the Miracle Grow. The worse cactus soil made. Where do you live? Go to a local nursery and buy one of the cactus Mixes they sell. They will be 100 times better than the Miracle Grow. Mike M I live in NYC. Thanks, I'll do that. Any advice about keeping them upright and what size pot I need?

Need advice on potting large totem pole cactuses
Hi all, this is my first post here. I have two large totem pole cactuses (Pachycereus Schottii Monstrosus) that I'm about to receive from Etsy. One is fat as hell as the other is pretty tall. They come bare rooted. I've never really replanted a cactus before, I usually keep them in the pots they com...
