Re: Please help me to growing them
:D Hi- Short answer: Yes, they can. Long answer: From my experience, those plants don't need too much water for their survival. In contrast, overwatering is a guaranteed death sentence. Your weather condition is similar to mine, and YES, they can survive. In fact, they go dormant during the cold win...

Re: Cactus cannot support itself
Both good and bad news. The bad news is, there is nothing you can do the reverse the effect. It's permanent. The good news is, you can cut the cactus into smaller pieces and let it grows in a new shoot. By that, you could have about 2 new plants, cut him by half or at his twist, and let the cut air-...

Re: Growing Lithops and Other Difficult Mesembs
For me, lithops sometime are very tricky to care for. They grow their new leaves 5 or 6 months ago, in April or May, and until now they haven't completely absorbed the old leave, despite I gave them no water at all. What should I do? I put them in a shaded area, maybe 50 to 70% shade cloth. I have o...

Well, I never experience A. myrostigma elongation, so I can't give you the correct answer. However, it seems like your plants have some fungal issues. The orange spot around the stem, which I believed is the sign of fungal infection. I am correct? The stem color is a little pale that I remember. May...

Re: Please help me to growing them
They are cultivars of Astrophytum asterias. The three larger ones are too young to tell if they will grow characteristics different from typical A. asterias, but the smaller one with the large flecks is the "Super Kabuto" cultivar. Care depends on where you will grow these, but A. asteria...

Variegated. But how? Which method we can take advantaged of?
Recently, there was the question came up to my mind. How people generates such beauty mutation like this at a large scale?
Any material and method needed?
I have two plants from these samples for almost 2 years and they growth incredibly slow, compared with the ordinary Astrophytum asteria.

Hi Aiko, yea good idea . Here are some of the Lithops from seed you sent me . Re: When to open ziplock bag on astrophytum seedlings
Great tips!
Can anyone share your Astrophytum seedling image?
Recently, it is the flower season of this species, and I also harvest lots of seeds. They are indeed really big, compared to other cacti.

If I was you, I will cut the discolor part and keep the green part while changing the soil. After several days airdry, you can place it in fresh new-dry mixture, the roots will come shortly after (1 or 2 months). This approach is one of the most simple and effective way to prevent the disease from s...

Re: Care for cacti with flower buds
Parodia haselbergii (=Acanthocephala haselbergii). The flowers readily self-fertilize and your plant is forming several fruits. :) I think you're right. The flower color fooled me, but P. haselbergii is variable in that. The fruits are not colorful, but you should get viable seed. Update: Seed coll...

Re: Sad astrophytum face. Please help.
The cut surface should be white when you cut it - it doesn't have to be rotten to carry the infection. Yes, that is the xylem and phloem - since that is the plant's water transport system, the infection will move up that quicker than the rest of the stem. The color may darken a little from oxidizat...
